Found this generic track from an unknown package from an unknown company…although it sounds like early CRC, MARS, Dick Hamilton, Ron Hicklin or Gene Morford.

Would really like to hear a jingle actually sing about the tradition of “Guisin'” on All Hallows Eve instead of all this imported US corruption of the most-ancient & revered Scots/Irish/Celtic celebration of Samnhain (Summer's End)!

Ah well – back to “dookin' for apples” & “dodgin' for jammy toast” before yet another orange-plastered, fake-blood-drenched, pumpkin-wielding plastic creature comes to the door totally unable to “sing a song, tell a joke, or do a wee dance” in return for extorting money sweets & monkey nuts to take back to their mother's gas-guzzling 4×4 that will be nearby spewing fumes into the street!

All joking aside – in these days of jingles with no more lyrics than the station “slogan” or “tag-line” (not even “positioning statements” any more, *sob*), it is actually the passing of the Seasons and the other revolving “seasonal events” (other than the “Four Months of Christmas“) that are something now very lacking on IDs and on radio in general – would any jingle company dare to sing an “Its Groundhog Day!” cut on their next “custom” for a UK or USA client?!?

(Q:- which English BBC local was it again that once actually had half-a-dozen TM cuts re-sung especially for just the ONE day of their local football team playing in the Cup Final at Wembley Stadium???!!!)

Probably not, but I remember this gem that WCFL used to play at least 2 times per show back in 1966-67 in January to celebrate St. Swiven’s Day.

St. Swiven’s Day is a celebration of alcohol held on the last Saturday of every January. Whereas St. Patrick's Day celebrates the Irish by drinking, St. Swiven's Day celebrates alcohol by drinking!

“St. Swiven’s Day”…thanks Tom!
(…obviously different from England's “St. Swithen's Day” in July).

Of all the “Big 10” jingles I got via the Tom Konard route back then, I don't think I've ever heard that one before!

I know that the Irish (and the French!) have a “Patron Saint” for absolutely everything under the Sun (and usually a day off work for it too), but that's a good one!

How on Earth did the Scots not spot that one first?!? Mind you, we have a slightly-boozy “Burns Night” on 25th January to celebrate the life & work of our poet Robert Burns on his birthday, so maybe we've found a back-door way of having the same thing!

That cut (and two more; “National Nasal Week” and “Air Your Ears Out Day”) was came from the creative minds of Chuck Blore & Ken Draper…that package, if my memory is correct, was aired from 1965 thru 1967 and contained many tracks that I don't think WCFL ever used.

The “BIG 10” TM/Merriman packages came later. Here are the additional 2 tracks & an edited version of St. Swivens Day.
