A bit hissy I admit , but here’s some cuts from Sue Manning Music’s Hallamland Package from 1980 . Now If only someone’s got the masters somewhere, there’s a few people on here that would kill for a copy !
February 8, 2005 at 5:41 am #15220GingalHi Dave,
Thanks for a great posting, certainly brought back some happy memories for me.
Who could forget Johnny Moran on Breakfast, cardboard shoes with the “lunch with a punch” show, and big Ray Stuart on the “Roundabout”, not to mention, Kelly (fluff every other line)Temple. In fact, I can still picture the Hallam gang posing in their white jackets high up on the hill overlooking the old bus station, great stuff!!!
Not sure about the female singer on the package, but am I right in thinking that the male voice belongs to Mike Smith of Dave Clarke Five fame ?.
This is my favourite Hallam package, after Jimmy Helms of course, Gerard and Kik come in third (top ups were supplied by a female backing session singer, can’t remember her name though).
Thanks again Dave for bringing back the good times from my youth, living in Winkerbank (no mis-spellings please).

February 8, 2005 at 8:18 am #15221BigdaveWell done for spotting Mike Smith on the cuts there ….at that time Sue Manning were doing Capital as well and Radio City , so his voice is instantly recognised !
The full package is one of the jingle holy grails – a bit like the Beacon “You” cuts – some people have got some of the cuts but not all of them ! Unfortunately , I’ve got a horrible feeling that the master went when Metro did the clearout of Hartshead when Hallam moved to Herries Road. I do know that the master of the 1985 Jimmy Helms cuts was saved by someone who’s a good friend of mine and this site – and he does pop in here every now and again !
As I mentioned in a previous posting , Hallam was a permanent fixture (literally) in our house during the late 70’s and 80’s , namely because my dad was employed by Alan Biggs as a sports journalist , covering amongst other things , commentaries at Chesterfield,Doncaster, and Mansfield, plus speedway, cricket and many other sports. I had the opportunity at least twice a week to go to Hartshead with him …and that’s where I heard this fantastic package as a kid !
Alan, along with people such as Kelly,Ray,Gerry Kersey,Roger Moffatt,Martin Kelner, and a young Dave Kilner all became familiar faces to me – and it was so sad to see the classic Hallam line-up fragment after the YRN takeover in 1986.
Anyway, I intend to post more Hallam stuff here soon, so keep popping back here for more treats !

The Gin-GalMike Smith was the house composer and vocalist for Sue Manning, the other vocalist could be Mary Cassidy,Lizzie Christian or Clare Torrey (of Pink Floyds dark Side of the Moon),it’s definitely not Kate Robbins (her vocals are quite distinct). Bad news about Mike Smith, he had a serious back injury after a fall a couple of years ago.
February 8, 2005 at 7:24 pm #15224m_hodgeyMemberThanks for the upload Dave. These jingles are from a little before my time but it was great to hear them nonetheless.
I look forward to your future Hallam audio posts!!!!!!
