One word to describe them – awful.

Personally, I ALWAYS listen to something several times before I comment..
          so…

          1) don’t quite “get” how it took 6 months to compose what appears to be about SIX cuts, with less lyrics between them than a SINGLE Personal Cut for BossJock, Ratnob or James Proctor! (…and I refuse to mention the “w..h’s”!)

          2) “I think there are very few stations that are luckt to have listeners sing the top of hour”

Naw! Never! Really! You’re Kidding!….they clearly need to get out more…

          3) If it took EIGHTEEN months of “Focus Groups” to realise that the 4-note “Zee-OneHundred” logo is actually quite catchy…it’s been around for donkey’s years…

          4) If this is a “Custom”, why does the long ramp effort at the start sound incredibly like the IQBeats “big” news ramp for that Dublin news-talk station some years ago (and which itself was really a “derivative” of various others before it…)

          5) The couple of slower cuts DID seem to be quite “atmospheric” & stylish – the rest of the tired same-pacey “thump-clap” rhythm-bed up-ramp stuff…well…some people apparently still like the musical style of jingles 10 years ago & more (…yet JAM get slagged off for “sounding dated”…)

As for all the “time and effort” to “get it right”…older JMers may remember the classic case of when in the 1950s FORD did something a bit similar to “create” the PERFECT motor car (automobile for US JMers…) that had EVERYTHING in it that “Customers” WANTED when interviewed & researched…its was called the Ford Edsel and it was the biggest FLOP in US automobile manufacturing history…

I don’t think you can get more patronizing if you tried.
Thank you for pointing out what a ‘car’ is. I had no idea.

No need for snide comments. Keep it to yourself, please. This is a friendly place.

I think what they meant by ‘a production process of 18 months’ is the process of comparing, discussing, choosing and briefing, and finally writing, recording and mixing of the jingles…

WAVA – I wasn’t being facetious or indeed intentionally “patronising” – I was simply making the tongue-in-cheek critique on the basis that sometimes over-researching a potential “new product” can lead to NOT getting the best results! :^)

Len, what have you against Wise Buddah? I fail to see what you hope to achieve by the constant criticism of their work.

I think it’s great to see a radio station putting so much effort into their jingles and being satisfied with the results so far as to detail the process online.

Have you ever thought of getting into consultancy for top 40 stations? I’d love to see the results.

                        Paul, please RE=read my comment:

“The hyperbole in the description tells us it came about after ‘focus groups’, a ’15-page brief to Wise Buddah’, and it took ’6 months’ to compose . These facts might have been better used if they had done a proper demo for the package, as it’s one continuous ‘noise’ where it’s hard to distinguish elements. Maybe one demo in English, one in Danish would have been a good (selling) idea, as the station is in Denmark which is not clear from the audio alone”

I think it’s quite clear that my comments are about the hyperbole in the audio/ press release which is from the radio station NOT Wise Buddah.

Basically, the ‘grand build-up’ does not match the results. As the CLIENT took so long to decide and compose the brief, and the package took ‘6 months’ to compose, I can only assume Wise Buddah just did EXACTLY what the station wanted, so my points refer to the radio station.

My comment ‘one demo in English, one in Danish would have been a good (selling) idea’ is completely POSITIVE. They clearly wanted to get (positive) publicity for their package, but the demo does not achieve that for me, or, it seems most of the contributors here.

Perhaps Wise Buddah will make a demo for the station that properly ‘sells’ the package, after all jingle companies have been doing great demos to sell their wares for over 40 years.

ANY station (or company) who publicise their products in this way should be ‘big enough’ to handle both positive or negative comments

“Have you ever thought of getting into consultancy for top 40 stations”

Paul, I am 62 and there is no commercial radio group in Britain who could induce me to work for them, I did it for 20 years and that is enough for one lifetime. I DO enjoy broadcasting on, and advising (in a small way) the Nottingham community station ‘Trent Sound’ ~ they do it for LOVE, not money… so do I.

                        Best wishes

                        Len
