Hi, I just have a question.
If you send someone jingles with no quality guarantees and they send you back an unsolicited detailed negative critique on what you sent, what would you think?
Would it be better for them to just say thanks and move on?

You’re omitting a lot of factors–“send someone jingles with no quality guarantees”–were these “demos”? Were they “solicited”? Were they PAID for jingles?

They were not demos.
They were requested and told at the time that the quality was unknown.
They were basically dissected and torn apart.
They were free.
I wanted to get other opinions before I offered mine.

I would make a note of it, ignore him/her in the future and move on. Life is too short.

I don’t think they meant any harm. It was just surprising at how it was, in my opinion, picked apart.

Thanks WAVA. Like I said I don’t think they meant any harm. I think they are probably a good person with perhaps very high standards. What was sent certainly wasn’t perfect, but probably could have aired. I have heard much worse on the air. For me, I sent my best quality, and just felt my efforts were unappreciated.

Personally, I think you’re better off ignoring it and moving on. Some of the stuff I post is of marginal quality. I recently posted WRKO’s PAMS Energy One which someone was looking for. My copy is like a 5th generation dub that was made over forty years ago. It had slight distortion, off speed and a crapload of hiss. I cleaned it up as best I could and posted it. The person was grateful as no one else had it. Would I have preferred that it be a dub directly off of the station master or the PAMS reference master?! Sure… BUT.. sometimes you get what you get.

When you provide a jingle package to someone, the proper etiquette is to just say “thank you” — even if it isn’t exactly what you wanted nor the quality which you wanted. You’re doing someone favor and for them to be negative about it is simply rude…. at least in MY opinion.

What I don’t understand is why was the quality unknown ? Did you not hear the audio before you sent it ? Had this other mystery collector perhaps sent you something first and then felt let down when yours didn’t match his ?

However, I’m assured by a “trusted source” that this BA is indeed not THAT “BA”, and is in the USA.

I’ll explain a little more. Iain is correct. I am not Ben, whoever that is, and I am in the US.
If you read some of my other posts, it’s mostly US-related.
I could not have said it any better than what tcarmen said.
To answer Graham’s questions, I was sent a jingle package unexpectedly that I had showed interest in. I was very appreciative, so in return I decided to try and return the favor. I sent them a very short list and at that time I told them I didn’t know the quality (since I had not heard anything off that list in years). They responded and asked for something specific. Then I sent it. The rest you know.
What they sent me was in mono, not perfect, but it was fine to me. What I sent them wasn’t perfect, but it was the best quality available. It sounded pretty good to me.
Anyway, when I trade, I always expect they will send me their best copy, as do I. Therefore, there’s no point in making comments. If it’s something that I want, I will take any quality available. I can always upgrade later if possible, just like you would do with any collection.
I think the other collector is a nice person with high standards. I have to assume that they were let down. With that being said, I did say I did not know the quality ahead of time and sent them my best. I was just trying to return a favor although they had not originally asked for anything in return.
