Just found this package, didn`t realise I had these untill last night. The package is for Essex Radio using the strap-line “The Music Station”. Anyone know who sings them ? – it actually says TM Century on the box cover.
Here`s a montage of the main cuts…

March 8, 2006 at 9:59 am #19904UKJinglesMemberI’m gonna take a guess at AIRFORCE……
Although the singing is very good for AIRFORCE!March 8, 2006 at 4:43 pm #19908danjamesukThat’s definitely the Airforce vocal group. From the sound, I’d say it was from around the time of the second GLR package.
The tracks are quite contemporary for old-school Airforce, so perhaps they had something to do with Sandy Beech (SH Productions then Vibe Music & Audio Imaging, now Music4), before he and Airforce properly ‘tied the knot’?
March 12, 2006 at 2:50 am #19943BarrasThanks Pete and Dan, I think you`re probably both right in saying Airforce, unless anyone else knows different 😉 On the same tape is a package for Wessex FM too. Both packages still sound quite fresh despite being over 12 years old.
Dan, you mentioned Sandy Beech – is it Sandy who would have ALL the master dubs of packages from Airforce ?

March 12, 2006 at 8:05 am #19944danjamesukWell, Sandy probably has access to all the masters, but the earlier stuff was composed by Roger Dexter and Alan Bell. Both of them remain at Music4, as Music Director and Director respectively (in fact, I might be wrong, but whilst Sandy is Managing Director, I think Roger & Alan still actually own the company). So someone there should be able to get their hands on ’em.

Blimey that’d be good.
I rather liked some of the Airforce packages… the Essex Radio stuff and also the Radio Leeds packages… and of course those Piccadilly ‘experience’ cuts!
I seem to remember a Mark Woodman (or something like that) being part of Airforce. He featured on a programme on Radio Four in the early 90s which looked at the jingle business. Do I remember right?

You and me both Spoons! I really loved the Essex Radio packages, but most of all, I would love to get my hands on a copy of the “It’s A Kind Of Magic” re-sings for Yorkshire Coast Radio. I know me and Mr Hemsley have been after a copy of this package for ages with no avail.
Incidentally, here’s one of the “It’s A Kind Of Magic” Airforce re-sings for YCR recorded off air in 1993 – brings back memories of holidays in Scarborough.
March 12, 2006 at 5:17 pm #19947SpoonsMark – that also brings back memories for me too!
The Airforce packages were often criticised but I thought some of them worked really well.

I think the Essex stuff was before Sandy’s time. I think the first time they really linked up was stuff like the Pepsi Chart when Sandy was SHProductions. All three of them of them now own Music4. I have to say Dan mentioned GLR which is still one of my favourite packages … a great package for BBC Local Radio. And yes Mark Woodman was one of the people at Airforce at the time. I dealt with him when I was Radio Devon. Roger Dexter is hugely talented when it comes to music – I’ve watched him at work and he can produce a great track from nothing in not very long – nice guy as well.
March 12, 2006 at 7:48 pm #19949UKJinglesMemberI must admit I didnt listen as often to GLR after Mr Sinister took over and booted the leader out (Tony Blackburn)
I did like the First GLR Package……But didnt realise there was a second
also!
Was it very similar and has anyone got any examples that they could post please?March 13, 2006 at 5:05 am #19955BarrasThanks for all the info. guys about Airforce, it`s a company that has escaped me over the years of collecting IDs. I mean I was aware of Airforce (got the demos. etc…) but having discovered by accident, two packages in my collection (Wessex & Essex) never appreciated how good they actually sound.
Who`s gonna be the first to shoot off an email to Sandy Beech re: dubs of packages then ?!!!

I have the IOW package on tape somewhere in my collection.
I’m fairly sure it was the Wessex FM launch pack as well – The news jingle certainly was Airfoce at it’s best
A.
March 13, 2006 at 2:18 pm #19960NickySMemberThere were as MB pointed out a number of GLR packages … they all used the same tune just got updated with various different mixes etc. Vibe did market the whole package in America and the rest of the world as an off the shelf News package.
March 13, 2006 at 2:51 pm #19961BigdaveYou’ll hear Mark Woodman as part of this from the download section…

It’s from a Radio 4 “Radio Programme” circa 1992 which looked at Jingles.
March 15, 2006 at 12:14 pm #19991IanMemberI have been through a load of tapes of off air recordings today, and have transferred to a 2 minute montage. I have uploaded to the “off air” section of the downloads. (should appear later)
All in lovely stereo, these are all from 1982ish. -
