Pete, I’ve got an EMISON cassette that has that label & wording, but
its a strange affair – chopped-up cuts, faded-in, faded-out – a totally
amateurish effort. Is what you’ve got a reel-to-reel tape of “proper” material?
or is this mish-mash I’ve got really how they presented their
wares to the then-new ILR “industry” ???June 1, 2006 at 12:21 pm #21113TheBigCheese
I could listen to EMISON/Emison all day.
More please..

I believe its a scan of the cover of a reel to reel boxPete, as mentioned what I have is the same label, buts its in the
box of an EMITAPE C30 cassette, sent by EMISON to me circa 1976,
but the audio content is as described above – a weird mish-mash.I’m trying to find out if the “demo” is really meant to be this way, or
whether a reel-to-reel version exists that is better presented. If needbe, I can post the cassette’s contents up on FileLodge if anyone
wants a listen???June 1, 2006 at 10:26 pm #21122UKJingles

So now I know . . . .
When I was at school in Singapore we had a BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service, for those who don’t know) station on a military campus. I was a spotty 14 year old who’d go there 2 evenings a week to “prep” the tapes on the automation system – and one of them was The BFBS Top 20 Show presented by Tommy Vance (circa ’74/’75). This was the only pop chart show on the radio on the island and just about every self-respecting teenager tuned into the show religiously.
Only one of the studios had a cart machine and I remember what a buzz it was to press the button and have those phased drums roll out through the (loud!) speakers.
(OK, the singing was “iffy”, but the music tracks were excellent.)
The radio bug had bitten. Studio G jingles and Tommy Vance, the DJ.
Thanks for posting the audio and providing the background info.
Anyone know who might have those backing tracks on tape in the clear?

I sat in with Tommy Vance doing the BFBS-UK Top 20 show once. It was recorded ‘as live’ on a Tuesday lunchtime (the charts were released I think at midday) recorded onto a couple of 10″ NAB 1/4″ reels, copied and sent out for airing ‘locally’ wherever British forces were based.
TV was in the studio, driving the desk. He had a tech op behind the glass and a producer on a raised platform, in a big chair calling the fades to make sure the programme hit exactly 60mins. It was quite tense, no-one wanted to go to the hassle of stopping and getting out the razor blade !
I recall the music was played off a very crude system that involved black discs, spinning platters and something called a stylus………………
