Something I found off a tape last night that I’ve uploaded to the site, an interview with the MD of Devon Air talking about the station’s second jingle pack.

      Enjoy !

As one tuning in to DevonAir during that era it was sad to say goodbye to the Alfasound packages which worked well on air, although it was good to hear a different sort of sound from the Dave Cousins’ package that replaced them.

This in-house package launched using the impressive orchestration which was full and bold with great brass and strings that you can perhaps detect on ah-media’s recording. Unfortunately these aired for only a few short weeks before the jingles were remixed in a way that the orchestration and vocals became thin and, in my opinion, unimpressive. These are the ones that are always presented as examples of this era of DevonAir jingles. I think this is a shame as listening to ‘The beat goes on’ or ‘Come with us to sunkissed shores’ and the News In jingle sound pathetic when compared with the fully orchestrated versions.

I was led to believe that the fuller versions were withdrawn from broadcast because they didn’t have particular clarity on AM/MW but if anyone knows the real reason please let me know -also, it would be great to know if dubs of these great jingles are in circulation.
