Years ago, on Radio 2, David Jacobs used an instrumental version of the song “On The Street Where You Live” (the one from ‘My Fair Lady’).
It was an upbeat, big band type arrangement. Does anyone know who recorded this version? I would appreciate any help : )
:Excellent…I’ve always thought that there should be a “Radio Themes” section on Jinglemad……..
In a way they were Jingles in the “old days” and a damn sight better than some of the other “instrumentals” that are called Jingles nowadays!
Now that I’m at home where I can listen to the above clip, I find it’s NOT the version that I remember
If it helps, I’m thinking of a version which was used during either the late 70’s or early 80’s.
It had more of a “driving” beat, more up tempo than the one here. Anyone????
From the clips I have of David on both his Saturday morning Star Sounds show and his daily show its the Ray Conniff version in use. This is an Audioboom sequence I put together some time ago:
However I’m pretty convinced the Quincy Jones version was used by someone if not David. I’ll have a look around some old recordings and see if I spot it.
On his Sunday night Radio 2 show he used another theme by Pete Moore Orchestra called I Love You Samantha. Does anyone have a copy of that? There is a sample on Radio Rewind. http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/sounds/samantha.mp3
