1987 and UK radio was changing…the IBA Independent Local Radio franchises were changing FM frequencies and new ‘twin’ stations were opening. In The Midlands…new twins appeared in Shrewsbury & Telford and Derby as well as the new ‘Northants 96’ bedding itself into Hereward Radio 1557’s former seat.

So here’s jingles from all the ILR stations in the Midlands in 1987.

Listening to this reminds me of how much Alfasound material was in the Midlands during this time. At one point it seemed that every station apart from Wyvern and BRMB were using them!!!!!!

This was a time when Alfasound were heard quite a bit in the Midlands – though this all changed within a couple of years when Amercian jingles were more widespread.

I think there should be a challenge to make montages of a year and of a region/state/city.
