MemberThat is so spooky Jonno as the great Man (Les Reed) passed away today (Monday) RIP
I remember contacting him once enquiring about the original County Sound Masters and he unregrettably didn’t have a copy but gave me a contact who didn’t even bother to reply to any of my emails!April 16, 2019 at 7:36 am #66286IainJohnston

MemberSad news when anyone in the Jingle Industry leaves us.
There cannot be a collector or anorak in the UK who doesn’t know the County Sound song and it’s various iterations by Les or Alfasound.April 16, 2019 at 9:41 am #65995jonno

MemberJonno, never heard so many cuts from the first package. I think I was only familiar with the main theme. Is there a stereo version anywhere?
Also the bassline of the main theme reminds me of the 1985 Red Dragon theme from Muff.

MemberAuthorHere’s an excerpt from County Sound’s 25th anniversary retrospective programme: “We’ll Always Be Here”.

In which Les talks about his involvement at County Sound as board member and of course, composer of the County Sound theme.
It concludes with him playing piano and singing the theme.

MemberFor no other reason than I was listening to these today while having a bit of a sort out on my hard drives… the original County Sound jingles by Les Reed and the demo of the first package that Alfasound created for the station which used Les Reed’s jingles as their basis.

Excellent Jonno..That is the first time I’ve heard the Full package……I bet it sounds beautiful in Stereo!
So much better than the Alfasound rip-offApril 17, 2019 at 6:47 pm #62454IainJohnston
Such irony in the “Well Always be Here” slogan – yet, in its eventual UKRD ownership
they lasted just about as long as any others in the face of consolidation by the foreign
“big boys” that have destroyed UK independent radio between them in the name of
(“tax-efficient”) money.Any time I was down in the London area in the 80s, 90s I’d listen to the then great stations,
and if armed with a radio cassette would “bag”a few snippets of air…e.g.
https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles01/ij-countysound-air-toh-1983wav/s-F4RvbCountySound always DID “sound” just a wee bit “posher”, a bit more “refined” in the
speech of the DJs and presentation and music selection. Indeed VERY “Surrey”.
And of course the jingles at CountySound over the years have been some of the
best customs and re-sings heard in the UK (including a certain Steve England
non-broadcast PAMS 18 sono…)PS – has anyone the news-in on my clip in prime quality/stereo perhaps please?
And why was it the “usual US” TM-style/notes logo, nothing like the logo of the
rest of the custom package, with note #5 of the “six notes” “out of it”???April 17, 2019 at 11:05 pm #62066GrahamCollins
Yes good find Jonno, where on earth was that set lurking ?
Was it an official demo or someone’s mashup ?
