MemberBl**dy H*ll!
I've NEVER heard that before David! THAT kind of “rarety” whether found behind the sofa or in the attic
is the kind of thing that makes this Site the place it is.Despite the “Thomson Creative” -style buckets of reverb, a very classy production – but are you sure
that Alfasound singers did that? there seems to be “twangs of Dallas” in there (sorry, that was an
atrocious phonetic pun!)Maybe JMW has another behind-the-scenes story there?

Wow. Thanks David for sharing that jingle EP. I agree with WIXY, sounds like a JAM creative production to me – but there's only one man who can confirm…..

Thanks for posting! I'm with David on this one, almost certain it's an Alfasound production but with Dallas vocals which would match the jingle package at the time i think but i could be wrong.

Mum always said “Close you mouth or the flies will come in”
Hope mum forgives me as that's seriously jaw dropping stuff.

MemberI would be interested to find out if it was an Alfasound production as I came to hear this a few years ago
And was told it was a TM Production
I would love to know!
Thanks for postings, as your cassette is better than the copy I have!

Ahoy
Am so pleased that you liked that (and am so pleased I managed to find it – you have Chalks to thank for encouraging me to find it).
Maybe I led you down the garden path my my Alfasound comment. I simply always had it in my mind it was Steve England who produced it, so the letters A-L-F-A-S… etc fell eaily into my posting.
Reality is I don't know, but I do suspect it's Alfasound and JAM… now I think of it. Perhaps Mr England could confirm this.
What is for sure is that Mike Powell would have certainly had fun in announcing to the board: “I want to say thanks to our listeners and clients.
“But, of course, it means it will cost an 'ell of a lot of money and naturally I will have to go to Dallas…”
Am really, really pleased you like it. It really is rather lovely.

This is /was truly superb….
It came out in the middle of THE 'Golden Era'… when several PD's were vying to spend moreandmore… on
longerandlonger jingles in Dallas ~ and of course we got to FLY there in those 'Golden days' to supervise vocals, and in my case I stayed at Jackie & Tom's home!
I may not recall exactly (hey I'm 58 now!) but I'm pretty certain it was a TM production/ Tom Merriman written (ALL his 'Hallmarks') station song for KVIL Dallas that Mike Powell heard and 'had to have'!
I believe it's Jackie Dickson on lead, again suggesting it was recorded at TM, recorded in the old Pepper Tanner studios that we used for the PAMS Gem 1 and 2 packages. Alfasound were only the 'agents'.
There was a long long printed cardboard cassette holder ~ I still have mine!
I forget the year 1991(?) but it was County Sound's 'Christmas card' that year ~ so they were probably able to claim it on their tax!

I tried to find this to celebrate County Sound's 25th a few weeks back but have only just managed to find it… behind the sofa etc etc…I hope this is new to some of you. I think it's simply beautiful. A great Alfasound production. Hugely dramatic.
This was given out to clients, stakeholders etc in the late 80s on a beautifully built “Reel to Reel” style cassette. I suspect it made the airwaves a number of times, too.
It was simply marked “Thanks“.
Enjoy

Great post David.
I have spoke to Steve England and he said……….
“Yes, actually we did. We were staying with Tom Merriman whilst recording Alpha material at TM studios. This was before we became the JAM agents. One night, Tom played us this song that he had written and recorded for KVIL, Dallas.
Mike Powell who was the head of County Sound loved it, and we ended up re-lyricing and re recording it at TM for County Sound as an ALfA project. Now didn't we do some interesting stuff
“

a quick postscript:
I recall now I spoke with Jackie about this and it was only possible to do the County Sound version of the cut as they took about 70% of the original KVIL lyric. They brought in the same vocal team who had to match the sound and 'drop in and out' to sing the customised parts.
The last 'Yor Cown T Sowwwwwnd' mirrored 'Kay Vee eye ellllll'
Tom wrote something very special vocally on the line 'County Sound the Number one..' the group are all singing very close notes, it's SO catchy…
….and I believe it's Jackie hitting the very high notes at the end. She did the same for us on a 'Rather be in Denver' cut ~ an incredible voice and for me THE female voice of the great PAMS days, and also the early JAM.
