At 9:00am on 4/21/2005 Infinitys WXPT (Mix 104.1) made the switch to JACK-FM. They kicked off the format with Pink’s Get this party started.

Dallas
Vail
Denver
KC
Indy
LA
San Diego
Jackson, Mississippi
Salt Lake City
MinneapolisIn Canada:
Vancouver
Toronto
Calgary
Victoria
Ottawa
AlbertaThat might not even be all of them. And that doesn’t include Jack’s bastard children Ben, Doug, Simon, Mike..et al
April 21, 2005 at 6:28 pm #24721jlehmannThere’s all of the Mikes, Bens, Bobs, Abes…. too. They’re all almost doing the same thing.
April 21, 2005 at 8:25 pm #24722UKJinglesMemberBut are they playing Jingles or just naff Liners
April 21, 2005 at 8:31 pm #24723jlehmannWell at least Mike FM here in Boston uses jingles.
April 21, 2005 at 10:10 pm #24724jkubiakHere is Jack’s first aircheck. Its a hack job, but I suck at airchecks. Enjoy!

104 is using the Jack Voice and the You TM Jingles. Out of curiosity what is Mike FM using for jingles?
April 21, 2005 at 10:59 pm #24725jlehmannThey’re from Tony Griffin, I’m not sure if the specific packages though. I’ll have to post some more of them on here. You can hear 2 of them in the “Changes in Boston” thread.

I would love to hear them.
The only thing that sucks about this change is that Mix 104.1 was the only station I actually enjoyed listening to. It didnt have all the top 40 shock crap. I really liked the 80’s music. It is sad to see it go. Mix 104 was the longest running 80’s station in the country. They started in 11/2000. I will definately miss them.

So what was Mix 104.1 using for IDs before they changed?

A great package
May 19, 2005 at 7:51 am #24789jkubiak104.1 Jack FM has killed their WXPT call letters to KZJK to better fit their Jack format. This position on the dial has been formatted so many times its not even funny.
As long as I can remember (24 years old mind you) its been:
Classic Rock
Modern Rock
Hard Rock
Heavy Metal
Hot Country
New Country
Classic Country (Custom with Thompson Creative, called “Classic Country”
Alternative
Smooth Jazz
The Fox
Mix 104.1 (The 80’s Station)
Jack FMAny one want to start taking bets to see what it gets flipped to next month?

Buffalo, NY’s 92.9 FM has the exact same issue (high format turnover) AND just switched to Jack FM on Monday with Howard Stern in the AM (its an Infinity owned station and they’ll run him through whatever format they switch to next until Stern’s contract expires).
WBUF (don’t know if they’ll be switching calls…they haven’t yet and I don’t see the need to for one legal ID once an hour…92.9 Jack FM is the moniker they’re using for everything anyway) is sounding mostly like an AOR Jack…and what makes this really strange is with this musical sound, they’re using the standard uncustomized Jack FM jingles…it doesn’t sound so good.
I still think they missed the boat on the name….it should have been Bill FM…Buffalo Bill Cody, the insanely popular Buffalo Bills NFL team…it would have at least added local flavor like BEN-FM in Philly (Ben Franklin)
Oh well. I didn’t think this message was going to be this long. You’re probably bored…I’ll stop now.
March 27, 2010 at 6:34 am #73229tyty21don't forget baltimore, MD, which IMO, they killed a great oldies station if you ask me! plus don't even remind me what they did here in LA, that what ended local radio listening for me! now, i have to go online for some great radio, and the jingles to match! “bastard children,” now that's putting it likely! why'd those children and their father have to go and kill some good stations! sucks! although there has been some jacks that have failed! 2 of the best “jack” fails are these!
1: WCBS FM, really deserved to get thrown out, big time!
2: WGCO, Savannah, GA, thrown out by one of the airstaff! i would've done the same thing he did, “hit the road, jack!”
March 27, 2010 at 1:33 pm #73232bobgreenradioMemberclearly, allowing so few to own so much is the real problem. remember when every market had a clearcut winner? none of this jack-crap. just very good hot, enjoyable radio. not now. give it a stupid worthless i.d. (jack) and point that dish.
then wait, as these same morons wonder why no market share! HA. i bet apple loves them. ipod sales are off the charts, and these “suits” investment banker types dont get it.March 31, 2010 at 7:53 pm #73320jkubiakSeeing as I started this thread almost 5 years ago, I thought it would be wise to post.
Jack FM is still around unfortunately. In 2008 they started stunting for a format change. They were stunting as 104.1 the bear. It turned out just to be a stunt for commercial free drive home.
I still miss my Mix 104.1
