A little while ago someone posted a jingle from the 1981 Sue Manning Centre Radio package. It reminded me that in a box marked “Danger – may make your ears bleed” I had a copy of the master tape. Sue Manning made some excellent jingle packages for Red Rose, Capital etc. but this package was NOT one of them. It could help explain why Centre was the first big ILR to go bankrupt! In fact you may want to have a bucket close at hand as I understand vomiting over your PC can cause electrocution! Here are the main cuts.

File is 07:46 long. Enjoy!?!?!

August 27, 2006 at 6:01 pm #22143mbMemberI'm sorry but that package is class sooo much better than the second Alfasound package.
Edit – I though you were talking about the first Sue Mannning package being bad – Which I think is fab. The Alfasound one was average at best.
August 27, 2006 at 6:37 pm #22144martinlesterMemberOnyxPaul I have have not heard them before
And I don't think I will want to hear them again –Dreadfull
Did they ever Air them ? or just put them tape in the BIN !I assume Steve England wishes they had done a better job as I remember him telling me how Alfasound
loss thousands as when they went down they had only paid 50% to him for the Alfa Custom PackageAugust 27, 2006 at 7:34 pm #22145OnyxPaulMemberAuthorI'm glad you all like them so much! You are right about the Alfasound package Martin, but as Centre did not fully pay for the package the copyright became void and Steve took the opportunity to flog the package over and over again (I heard it on Radio Gibraltar, Sunshine Radio in Ireland and dozens of hospital stations). Here is one of the main cuts http://www.justin-case.co.uk/simon/centre16.mp3
Many of the cuts became generic jingles on the Alfa DJ tapes. The news jingle alone was heard resurected all over the place. This is it

I think he got his money back in the end.August 27, 2006 at 8:38 pm #22146jonnoMemberI quite liked the Sue Manning stuff (!) it was certainly distinctive.
The Alfasound package was also re-sung for Delta radio …

I think he got his money back in the end. That was one of the good things about Centre going down it gave me the chance to get 3 of the cuts re-sung for myself (I think 1 or 2 are in the download section)
I re-call Steve telling me his partner was not best happy at me picking the Main Theme tune to be re-sung as it took them quite a long studio time to do !
As for Sue Manning well I did like the Capital Radio package but
If I was Sue Manning the Centre Radio Package is something I would not want to broadcast – I can not imagine anyone wanting re-sings of that package !
August 28, 2006 at 3:19 pm #22149BigdaveSue Manning's finest hour came with the 2 packages she did for Hallam – Hallamland and the 1982 custom with Gerard Kenny and Kiki Dee.
I've just uploaded the Hallam 1982 cuts,so watch out for them later….

October 3, 2006 at 8:39 am #22816ah-mediaMemberOf course, Sue Manning did the fantastic launch packagfe for Mercia Sound too ! I agree about the Centre Radio pack though !
October 16, 2006 at 7:15 pm #22904SpoonsNow, I always liked these!! Once that main theme gets in yer head, you won't be able to stop singing it!!! < the Centre package I mean! >
January 6, 2007 at 11:29 am #28315mumossI really really love the 81 Centre Radio jingles. Utterly ridiculous, but great fun. The main theme especially. The closedown is hilarious – “You may be on your own, but you'll never be alone – with Centre Radio…”
The 83 ones are OK, but not in the same class – although they get bonus points for the ridiculous phrase “It's great to live in Leicestershire… where it all happens”.
They're all here for anyone who hasn't heard them:
