It’s Noel Edmonds’ birthday today. Those of us in the UK over a certain age will remember him as a very fine broadcaster. Here’s Bob’s tribute from two years ago:

True – authenticity needs crackle, plus a sense of being bleary-eyed.

MemberOn a sideways topic I love listening to recordings (I’ve got hours of them) of Laser 558.
Sat outside relaxing on the decking on a sunny afternoon with the AM quality sounds blasting out from my wifi radio! Just as it sounded 30 odd years ago!

Radio 1 was on FM at that time though
I posted a 1982 & a 1983(/4?) start-up years ago (medium wave quality) on JingleMad.
I’ll see if I can dig ’em out and SoundCloud them.I would love to hear these and others various start ups from pre-1984 (in stereo)….
A 1985 start up (in stereo) was kindly posted by a member on here a few years ago.

Duh! I realised that after I’d posted my comment. Happy to sit in the corner with the dunces hat on

Would that be the special version Sean? You know, the one with added zing and clarity

MemberJust FYI, the :20-:30 instrumental breaks (heard in-between all of those nonstop Radio 1 jingles) are also from JAM. It was “The Pre Sign-on JAM Show on Radio 1”. We loved it.

Thanks Jon – are you able to say how many tracks the BBC licensed or did they buy The Answer complete? I only mention it as I have never seen any reference to the tracks, or seen a Log Sheet or noticed LPs in the fabled cupboard. As usual this sort of information is so good to have.
Thanks
GC

We loved it more!
Personally, I could have woken up at 7.30 am to get to work, but instead, five to six made the day ahead a brighter perspective

As Robin pointed out, a CD set of “select tracks” and mixouts from the original vinyl version was released, titled The Answer for the 90’s.

Dick Hamilton Gold:http://www.bobdinan.co.uk/Blog/Jingle_Podcast/Entries/2014/2/25_Dick_Hamilton_Gold.html

Let see I used several of these dick Hamilton cuts on the radio. Working at wvbf I often played the jingle called klubedda into a moody blues cut. And soul mubbles and Marvin Gaye a marriage in seque heaven. I used time whenever we had an oldies weekend at the orginal wrmf am and fm. The Indy rain song has the thing on the end because a tymp then would follow with a Craig Hudson voice over saying crirca Q 1972 this is the 50 000 watt voice of Indianapolis wibc followed by the news sounder from that 1971 wibc jingle package from heller. The main reason Fairbanks communications used heller was the did not sound like Dallas. And yes bet you didn’t know that the sound of reel people on the kvil 76 package was from the message to Dallas heller jingle package. That’s what it says on the master. And Jon has it all wrong about the why and how you would use these on the air from a programming standpoint. I was both a production director and program director for Fairbanks working in Boston Florida and Philly. Btw Hamilton fans he did great air talent show opens like Gary Todd and orly Knutson for wibc..
