Jingles in the Key of life:
A wonderful reminder of the attention to detail that goes into these six-second songs we like so much:http://www.bobdinan.co.uk/Blog/Jingle_Podcast/Entries/2013/3/30_Jingles_in_the_Key_of_LIfe.html

Eh? a major network UK “presenter” in the 21st Century who actually understands how to “match” jingles to the following piece of music rather than “clashing” by any old stuff being bunged in at random by the computer from the “jingles playlist”?
Len G – you can now have a sense of relief that “you’re not alone” in what works well in radio-land!
(…and my hat’s off to KB – someone who has one of the most “relaxed sounding” presentation styles anywhere – and claims he “just turns up and sees how the programme goes without any preparation in advance”
Mind you, he is a Scot!)March 30, 2013 at 2:53 pm #89452bossjock
MemberCould someone please post an mp3 version of “Jingles in the Key of Life”? I’ve tried to play it via the link above, but my PC and Apple Quicktime are not the best of friends!
Thanks

MemberThose WDGY jingles are NOT from Johnny Mann. That is the early ’60s Dallas vocal group, and the source is probably Futuresonic or CRC. Sorry I can’t recall the exact series offhand.
Johnny Mann did do jingles prior to the “Drake acappellas” era (for example, WMCA New York, a direct competitor to WABC in the 60s, used his jingles to promote “The Good Guys”). But the jingles you posted in this podcast aren’t his.

Legal Fun:We love a good legal ID.
You know: the cuts on US stations that tell you the name of the station and its place of origin.
But we also love it when stations poke fun at the tradition, as in this whimsical (Buddy Holly?) cut for WNDR Syracuse taken from a very old Jon Wolfert jingle sampler.

Barsky is now an afternoon talk host at WFTL 850 AM. Doing pm drive and the station is streamed. Glen Kalina has worked at just about every Philly radio station. He did pm drive for a bit at the disco version of WZZD.

I actually liked them WCAP cuts.
As for “The Worst” – I’ve heard much worse.

MemberAuthorYes, ‘The Worst’ is overstating it: it was just a bit of feeble wordplay based on the package time, ‘The Best’.
December 2, 2013 at 6:16 am #92492SeanMartin
I first heard cuts from this package on Radio Merseyside. The Best is still one of my favorite packages, but I’m happy for the demo to get filed in The Worst category
Only a few tracks from the package have survived

MemberTop Format did a lot of resings for local radiostations in Holland on tracks of the Best.
It’s one of my favorite Tanner packages too, but maybe that’s because I listened to one of the stations (Radio Centraal) who used that package in the ’80s.
