Time to start another interesting thread
Right how many Jingle companies can YOU think of who have blatantly “nicked” other companies jingles?
(excluding MANCHESTER MIX! lol)
Please post the proof!
Here’s a couple to get it started both ALFASOUND.1. TANNER to ALFASOUND
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.wilson60/rip1.mp3
2. JAM to ALFASOUND (again!)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.wilson60/rip2.mp3
Sorry about the quality but these were recorded “off-Air” over 25 years ago!
Any more??? 😉
March 14, 2004 at 11:17 am #13140SpoonsGood one Pete.
A couple spring to mind.
Here’s a TM to DAVID ARNOLD
http://www.unclespoons.btinternet.co.uk/RIP1.mp3
And here’s a C21 to ALFASOUND (at least I presume it was this way round!)
http://www.unclespoons.btinternet.co.uk/RIP2.mp3
I wonder what the jingle companies made of it?
March 14, 2004 at 11:20 am #13141RobinBlamiresHere’s a few cuts from the Invicta 89 package by Alfasound and PAMS International which included a few rip offs from Century 21’s Proton Package and cut 15 from Miami’s WAXY. The package did also contain however all the other cuts from the WAXY package and a few from All Hit Kit so I can’t see why the original Proton package couldn’t have compelmented these other gems.
March 14, 2004 at 11:20 am #13142DavidHemsleyThat track 2 – a very reliable source once told me that Jon W was well pissed with Steve for them aped tracks . . . this was in the days long before Alfasound was tied in with JAM – originally Steve went to Dallas to sign with a different company – Thompson I think, but a make-up meeting with Jon W changed jingle history in the UK – imagine if Steve HAD signed with Thompson? would we all be singing the praises of Thompson on here instead of JAM?

Hi Robin, I think you’ll find that PAMS International were the UK reps for Century 21 at that point – the package was a co-operative effort between the three companies.
March 14, 2004 at 11:30 am #13144DevawebMemberMore recent, but there’s the famous Chris Moyles Vibe jingles that, erm, possibly nodded towards some classic JAM cuts! The remakes by Sandy and his team were excellent, though I believe they led to some controversy.
Great great jingles. Especially “The best sound in Bridlington…”

It wasn’t Thompson. They didn’t come onto the scene until 1986 and Alfasound was with Jam way before that.

Do you know… I have a sneaky suspcion it was Century 21.
I’m sure I’ve heard Steve say that on tape.
It makes sense – when you consider the Trent 10 and Invicta packages.
March 14, 2004 at 11:37 am #13146DavidHemsleyI did say “I Think” . . . . .
Well whoever it was it was Dallas based.
March 14, 2004 at 11:43 am #13147DavidHemsleySo when DID Alfasound sign with JAM ?

Yeah I think it was around 1989..coz prior to that ALFASOUND tied up with CENTURY 21 for about a year or so!
March 14, 2004 at 12:13 pm #13152mbMemberAgain apologies all round but I seem to recall from my conversations with Steve that it was C21 / TM, they had already done some stuff with Pams Internation for the AM/FM splits in 88 for County sound / WABC / Classic Gold and Trent and Invicta. And a more formal tie up was about to be done.
Jon was a bit peeved becasue of one of some Alfasound cuts which had sounded identical / similar to JAM tracks. Remember it was Steve who when Piccadilly Radio mgmt took the staff to America in 1974 to listen to US commercial radio went off to Dallas – He also introduced JAM jingles onto Piccadilly Radio in the 70’s. They knew each other via jingle collecting for years. and I believe it is true that they bumped into each other in Dallas and started chatting jingles. – Now that would be a deep jingle conversation.
From the collectors tapes and my memory the first JAM jingles on ILR I heard was Beacon radio in Late 89.
March 14, 2004 at 12:19 pm #13153mbMemberThese are truly awful – I sent them to Steve about a year ago who found them quite amusing.
Its a Turbo Z tribute!!!

Hey Michael,
Those are so awful they are good! 😆
Any idea Who produced them?
Anyway good to see all these “rip-offs” coming out of the closet!!
Incidenatlly I’ve E-mailed the great man to ask about the ALFASOUND/JAM
history…If we don’t get this answered none of us will be able to sleep at night!!! 😉March 14, 2004 at 2:23 pm #13164mbMemberHey Michael,
Those are so awful they are good! 😆
Any idea Who produced them?I think they were called sound house!!???? – The Scottish company that made all the great Tay / Forth jingles. The Great Music Radio and RFM jingles were fab but I think they should have stuck to making their own “style” and not gone for the Turbo Z soundalike. The only worse one I’ve heard is the Manchester Mix Turbo Z imitations!!!
March 14, 2004 at 3:00 pm #13166DavidHemsleyDave Nightingale has an interview with Steve he recorded in 1995, which Steve says he teamed up with JAM in 1989
Dave has kindly agreed to edit this up for us to hear . . . . soon:)
March 14, 2004 at 6:32 pm #13167DJIf I remember Alfasound was orignally going to team up with TM,
This was before the merger of TM / Century 21 as orignally Barry Charnley had the UK rights to Century 21 Later he lost this to David Arnold
He also had the UK rights to the PAMS product via Kenr and Ben Freedman for the Dallas re-sings ,
This is why a lot of the Alfasound Demos had the notice produced in association with Pams international and Century21.
When he decided to give up the Jingle Biz the only rights he had was for the Thompson Creative Jingles which he passed on to Dave Langer
Going back to the orignal question I am sure I recal an interview with steve who said he was going to team up with TM as he never thought JAM would be intrested but he always liked the JAM product best

This is a great post! Thanks Pete for starting the laughs!

March 15, 2004 at 10:15 am #13172danjamesukRip off jingles!! Of course, there were those bloody marvellous cuts penned by Music 4 (back in the days when they were SH Productions, even before they became Vibe), ripping off the old JAM Radio 1 cuts. And, of course, there was their legendary parody of the JAM song. But where are they now? You can’t find them for love nor money, so if anyone’s got ’em, any chance of submitting them for all to hear?

The JAM song was on the original SH Productions demo CD – I think some of it is actually on Pete’s website as part of the Music4 MP3.
March 15, 2004 at 6:34 pm #13174SpoonsWell, here is the JAM parody:
March 15, 2004 at 6:45 pm #13175danjamesukThanks for that, Spoons… what a great copy! And I’ll be visiting Pete’s page soon – thanks for the info NickyS.
March 15, 2004 at 8:31 pm #13176BrammyMemberDoes anyone know the best place to get hold of the older Chris Moyles jingles that Vibe did? The ones like “The Best Sound In Bridlington”
I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard them and they sound like they could be pretty good!!!

I’ve only just spotted the name of one of the stations in that JAM Song parody by Vibe – WRIT. Very funny!!!
March 16, 2004 at 12:22 pm #13178InfernoSad to say that David Arnold copied a W.BTanner jingle in the 1983 Essex Radio package. In the early 90’s TM copied a David Arnold jingle from the 1984 Radio 210 package. TM redid it for WCAU talkradio 1210. A cut for “Bruno in the morning”.
Trent 5 (1983) from Alfasound also copied a couple of jingles from a package for WROR from Jam! Where does it stop! -
