Someone… recorded some jingles of Big 101.3 (WNDH, New Bedford).

I don’t know which vocals these came from, but the author suspected they used a d.i.y jingle kit like Ben’s Instant Radio Station.
And despite being a classic hits station prioritising hits from the late 80s to the 90s, the vocals here are very… 70s. Not a good fit.
Thoughts?

The jingles (IMHO) are pretty good–but can’t stand “Liners”/”Sweepers”…also a superior quality audio stream than “Big 98.1” See “New JAM Re-Sings in Long Island” in “Discussions”)

Sorry, but that sounds like a trainwreck to me. Weak sounding vocals that don’t fit with the other production elements (or indeed the music). Is their budget really that low? Their sister stations WKNL and WKOL have proper jingles from JAM.

I think they are a small radio station, and they can’t afford JAM jingles, so they had to resort to getting one of “those” imaging kits as their sweepers.
Also, the way they sung the call letters is way too off, too monotone-y, they don’t give me that ‘WABC’ feels. Feels more like plastic. Like, a stiff, hard-to-bend plastic.

Also, thx to Mr. Carlson who commented on the SC post, saying that these so-called ‘jingles’ were actually Promo Bank from L.A. Air Force. So my guesses were right.

Could very well be–I’ve got the Promo Bank and it has EVERY AM & FM Frequency & EVERY “slogan” there is–No Big Deal to clip & connect “Big” and “HITS’ with “98.1” ! On the other hand, kudos to them for TRYING–i’ve heard stations (“True Oldies Affiliates”) who DON’T have ANY Local Jingles–maybe a “sweeper”–but that is NOT a “Jingle”.

The cut from Freedman’s “Maximum Variety” is in a different key than the Frankenstein a cappella, but other than that, sounds like the person who edited these together did pretty well with what they had to work with.

I’ve done a lot of “Frankenstein” jingles for my music podcast using the products available from JingleSamplers.com along with the handful of personal jingles I’ve gotten – sorry to toot my own horn, but I think they sound better than what I’m hearing here. Probably because I’m working with full acapella ID sings. If I were running this station and only had <$400 to work with (Promo Bank is $395 as of now), I would get one full sung cut from Sono Jingles (about $160), then fill out the rest of the budget with production libraries and maybe a few additional shouts and/or sono cuts. But of course that's just my humble opinion.

I don’t understand other than on air staff / salespeople what is more important about a radio station than how it sounds?
