These are now unveiled….. I’m afraid I could not help commenting on Twitter:

“You are good at making jingles that sound like Eurovision songs!” … as for once they do fit the ‘music’ and have similar vocals! But WHY do Wise Buddha feel it necessary to drown the end their ‘jingles’ in SOOooo MUCHHHH eEcChHoO ?

The Echo makes them sound a bit more Eurovision (what ever that is) I Just find them a bit Dull. I love Jingles that make my hair’s stand on end, if you know what I mean. These just dont do it for me. Just Saying!

Agreed, the effect is overblown but it’s not echo. These are distinctive separate reflections as in Alpine shouting. The effect added in varying degrees and intensities to all but bass/kick drum tracks at mixdown by almost all jingle producers (Groove Addicts excepted) is reverb – continuous multiple reflections that build then fade away – heard inside a cathedral, it makes the sound of the choir spell-binding.

Beautiful if used correctly and makes THE difference.

For what it’s worth I actually like them, but it’s the client approval that counts not mine

Supposed to be 6 but only 5 can be heard. Theme 2 V3 is exactly the same as V2 in duration and not 30s. Still, I think they work well on air.

                Thanks for the speedy comments.

It seems the Radio 2 jingles are up for an award, which is ironic, as when I listen the most I hear (apart from the news) is 1 or 2 an HOUR…..

Surely, to be eligible for an award, they should be played?

The results of the ‘award’ Radio 2 were up for are in ~ worryingly ‘jingles’ are stuffed under the more general ‘imaging’: Jingles are not greatly in vogue with many ‘suits’ at present.

                  Radio Academy Awards (were Sonys….)

                  Best Station Imaging

                  Gold: KISS FM (UK)
                  Silver: TeamRock Radio
                  Bronze: BBC Radio 2
                  Nominee: BBC Radio 6 Music
                  Nominee: The Capital Network

But interestingly one of the ‘best breakfast show’ categories saw GEM106 (a jingly station) WIN and beat Radio 2.

Most importantly THE standing ovation of the evening was for Tony B. – who of course was instrumental in getting JAM/PAMS back on Radio 2 :-)

So forget about ‘imaging’ …. Jingles DO still rule on Britain’s BIGGEST station!
