Hi all, back at the end of the 80s as a young jingle fan, I remember hearing some cuts played on Radio Kent that were not from their Alfasound package but singing a generic BBC Radio tag. If memory is right, the words on one of the cuts were ‘more news, more music, more fun… it’s the best in Britain… BBC Radioooooo”. There was also a cut that simply sang “Traffic and Travel”. Anybody remember these or have airchecks?!

Seems to have everybody foxed! It sounded like a generic BBC package but my memory is hazy!

I recall from an old aircheck cassette of that era that R.Kent seemed to be “good” at airing “edited things”
that perhaps they shouldn’t really have had on-air “without the prior written consent of…” ?

I remember Radio Leicester using an instrumental JAM jingle back in ’83. I think it was an old Radio 1 jingle. Come to think of it Signal Radio were using a JAM bed for a promo in ’84 too….

I’m sure there’s early Alfasound jingles sung “BBC Radiooooo” and I’m sure I’ve heard the cut masty was on about :)

I think possibly WM and some other stations for regional shares have had fairly generic jingles made up over the years, Kent has had some great jingles of their own to work with over time, their Alfa stuff was actually pretty good, their JAM stuff was very good from a fairly Nottingham perspective … Their IQ beats stuff omitted the vocals as demo’d by the company ! And as for Mcasso, last I heard they were clinging on to the 1st wave themes … Mind you it looks like they’ve been VILOR’d recently so maybe a change on air …

Pretty sure tho’ that yes there are some generic BBC Radio sung jingles about, and possibly that ‘traffic and travel’ cut is the same that could be found in the gram libraries of the locals back in the early 90’s on various production music CD’s there’s one that features a lot of generic jingles that did get used, and by Kent from either possibly Cath Baxter or Sue Manning, such favourites as “Easy Listening Through The Day … Stereo Radiooooooo” or “Stereo FM ….” fairly generic stuff with a definate UK sung style, but was used or available to be used by the locals in exchange for production royalties I’m guessing a.k.a … CHEAP !!!

Thanks to a dub-off whilst on work experience at BBC Essex back in 1993 our school radio station used the above ;) And our Media Studies teacher was sooooper impressed that we were using all the then current BBC Eastern Counties regional show themes haha … They were also all found on production CD’s …
