You might have missed this intriguing Tweet yesterday from BBC Radio 2 ‘jingle person’ Chris Reay
“Me, a dimly lit studio and an ISDN line to Dallas. What is going on?! “
I could not resist replying:
“Is it for the JAM vocal group to sing over Wise Buddah tracks for Mark Goodier’s Radio 2 namecheck as he wants the BEST?”
The ‘tantalisng, teasing Tweet’ must have been partly aimed at ‘us’ on here as I doubt if a typical listener would make much from the ‘clues’ ‘ISDN’ and ‘Dallas’ ?!
December 7, 2012 at 5:52 pm #87381simon_t123Memberooooh some WB Xmas R2 cuts with Dallas vocals perhaps ? a la ‘GOLD’ with their IQ Beats tracks with Dallas vocals … or … maybe nowt of the sort and some prod or Xmas programming ‘thing’ requiring a Dallas hook-up, I know which I’d prefer it to be
December 7, 2012 at 10:44 pm #87392loujosephsHe’s not getting anything good..when I work from my home studio..it’s fire up the broadband..compress and feed..quickly and the file is there or I leave it in dropbox.
ISDN costs way too much for what you get.
I have 25mbs outbound..and 15 up so no worries hereDecember 11, 2012 at 9:34 pm #87470AndyWMemberI don’t see what the problem is with listening to a jingle session on ISDN. It was only ever used for a client to listen in on the session and maybe offer some comments back to the company. The masters would have been delivered in a higher quality format. I’d still choose ISDN over any broadband solution for a live feed any day. A fixed low delay and most importantly no contention. It’s point to point like a phone call rather than point to ‘cloud’.
December 12, 2012 at 12:08 am #87473SeanMartinCome on. ISDN is way cheaper than an airfare and hotel if you’re talking *international* client and recording in Dallas. Take it for what it is – low latency audition, almost hi-fi quality and it’s *almost* like the real thing! It *is* the next best thing to being there!
Done it so many times and cost comes in at cheap, compared with travel and time.
December 12, 2012 at 5:01 am #87476LenGroatThe answer !
A year ago I suggested to the bosses fo several of the big groups that they ought to get JAM for their 80’s 90s oldies shows, but once again it’s the BBC that ‘leads the way’… Wake up commercial radio !!

December 12, 2012 at 5:54 am #87477mjb1124MemberAwesome news! Looking forward to hearing them.
December 12, 2012 at 7:39 am #87478RobinBlamiresMakes sense. Always thought a PAMS jingle into a late 80s Kylie Minogue track doesn’t quite work on air.
December 12, 2012 at 8:46 am #87479LenGroatThere is a sad, prophetic co-incidence here, as on the ‘old’ site David Barras always had a ‘footer’ comment about getting ‘JAM back on Radio 2’. It was just after he passed away that this session was held at JAM with the Radio 2 person listening in London….
December 12, 2012 at 9:22 am #87480IainJohnstonMemberIntriqueing that Tony has “ordered himself” the jingles. Perhaps just journalistic licence? Or perhaps someone has “stood up” to the bean-counter-led R2 jingle-procurement-policy of royalties-retention over content?
Who knows, “its only jingles”. Lets wait and see what happens and what appears.
But Mr Barras I think would indeed have much approved.
December 19, 2012 at 8:20 pm #87565UKJinglesMemberThis is GREAT news……anymore info?
When!December 21, 2012 at 8:42 am #87587LenGroatWhen indeed?
Chris Reay is most congenial… and answers personal emails…. but I could not get a ‘when’ out of him…. though I suspect VERY soon !
December 23, 2012 at 9:04 am #87612Bigdave2013… the return of JAM to the BBC National Network
I can’t wait!
December 23, 2012 at 9:31 am #87614muffywhen you listen to the in house vocals on radio 2 on the new jingles ..it shows that there are singers and quality jingle singers .. and for me the best are in the USA ………. Some of the end sings on the New Radio Jingles dont work …
December 28, 2012 at 9:47 pm #87698RjMI’m looking forward to hearing which cuts Tony has selected (guessing that Tony himself is behind this), and glad that they’ve decided to use JAM vocals over JAM tracks this time, rather than the UK vocals on his PAMS cuts, which although good aren’t quite the same.
I’m hoping for some classic 80’s Radio 1 re-sings (“National Radio 2″/”The best sound in Britain… Radio 2”)
Any hints on the cuts chosen, or a when they will start airing?
December 29, 2012 at 10:11 am #87702muffyYes I agree those jingles would work …… the 60’s pams style jingles are over played ..
December 29, 2012 at 12:01 pm #87704LenGroatIt looks like these JAM cuts may debut on the first weekend of 2013 but maybe worth checking ‘Pick of The Pops’ on Radio 2 today at 1pm? Then Tony is on at 10pm a ‘New Years Eve Soul Show’ and 2pm on New Year’s Day ‘The Number 2’s show’.
Amazing to think I was in Twickenham listening to him on ‘Big L’ … FORTY SEVEN years ago….
December 29, 2012 at 3:13 pm #87705muffySame Jokes then
December 29, 2012 at 8:57 pm #87708jonnoMemberSame Jokes then
December 29, 2012 at 11:58 pm #87710simon_t123Memberthe oldies are the goodies for those that happily have TB on their facebook you’ll see many a classic posted everyday bless him !!!
… on topic, I wonder what JAM delights R2 have got coming ? perhaps R1 resings from the years featured ? (as R2 was more MOR / Beautiful Music in days of old) or some good ol’ classic JAM tracks of the 70’s & 80’s ? it worked for Johnny Walker & Sounds Of The 70’s but I think all those cuts (and TB’s current PAMS cuts) were UK sung via S2Blue … I await with baited ears
January 1, 2013 at 2:34 pm #87738LenGroatSadly, no sign of the new Tony Blackburn JAM cuts on the ‘No.2’ show today.
There is just a ‘show cut’ with a (gruff) voice-over on a Wise Buddah ‘ELO meets Rod Stewart’ style blingle, on which the singer sounds like he smokes 80 cigarettes a day
The GOOD thing is that Tony is at least LIVE today !
I also heard an incredibly messy voice-over the news jingle at 2pm by (surprisingly) the usually eloquent Jeremy Vine. The ‘line’ they have to read does not ‘fit’ + his casual comments OVER the jingle are not worthy of a national station. In ‘my day’ the news jingle was sacred, you respected it…
Tut tut !
January 1, 2013 at 4:42 pm #87740muffyThink we have to show them how its .. done ..
January 1, 2013 at 6:54 pm #87747mattbeeJeremy never the does the news jingle correctly, it always sounds a mess. Wogan is another one that cant get the ‘line’ in the space provided.
January 3, 2013 at 12:09 pm #87767LenGroatHurrah ! Thanks to Simon Prentice at S2Blue we now know….
“…this Saturday new JAM re-sings will be on Pick of The Pops on Radio 2”
Stand by your wireless with your cassette machine on pause…
…. ready to record!
January 3, 2013 at 2:20 pm #87770SeanMartinLook forward to hearing them!!!
