Pure have posted their demo for Radio 1.

OK I’m old School but isn’t this the same old style Radio 1 have had for nearly twenty years now?
Before I get heckled I’m not demanding a return to classic 1976 JAM jingles but listening to the other work by pure and other contemporary companies Radio 1 is so safe and pedestrian in its imaging.
Its not a criticism of Pure as this sound very on brief and what the client must have dictated but their other European work is far more creative and interesting.

For me there’s nothing stand out it’s functional and identifies the station. no heart, soul, vision or oomph.

      How should Radio 1sound?

(:| is my reaction. There’s plenty of more interesting and vibrant CHR packages out there. You’re right, Pure are only following their instructions and have done better jingles. Z100, JJJ, etc, have great imaging so Radio 1 could sound like that too?….maybe Radio 1 are scared of having sung jingles at the risk of being old fashioned? With that in mind, CBBC have sung jingles in their continuity so Radio 1 should take that on board :)

I’d rather listen to a pneumatic drill.

GW – I recommend “Summer in the City” by the Lovin’ Spoonfull, circa 1966 ! :)

It’s a curse being the wrong side of fifty and not being able to appreciate this “hip” Radio Imaging!! %-(

One of my favourite songs, Iain – ever since Steve Wright opened one of his stereo Radio 1 Bank Holiday (Monday) shows with it around 1983.

And the wrong side of 40 too.

Some bits were very impressive until I realised that they were snippets from the station playlist !

Not really worthy of our national CHR. Not a criticism of Pure – they are only following orders.

Of course (off subject I know) the many ‘suits’ at Radio 1 will never be held artistically accountable for what they have done to the station – and will get big fat BBC pensions. :-(
