I wish radio 1 would get some new sung jingles for the whole station rather than for just chris moyles

February 13, 2006 at 6:52 pm #25644mbMemberCan’t see jingles for a while Radio 1 more than ay other network is run by the marketing department rather than the programming teams and research says people don’t like interruptions between the songs – jingles were one of the things that grated for some reason as the station attempted to reduce the elements that stop the flow of the music. Plus the Vibe jingles were not universally liked (or so I heard) either so jingles quietly went and no one really noticed or cared.
The jarring thig is that the longer a generation grow up without jingles the more difficult they become once you try to puty them back.

February 13, 2006 at 9:00 pm #25646nickpledgeI never have been a fan of a DJS jingles.. only mainstream used jingles for the station ID only. But these 1999 Zoe ball jingles just rock!! Totally awsome.
I liked the Kevin and Zoe Jingles too!! So different from the whole package.

I’m not going to say where my evidence comes from as I don’t have to justify it – But I do have various contacts in radio and my evidence is that if jingles researched well from the radio marketing team they’d be on the station. i’m not saying I agree and actually I personally think a lot of people at radio 1 are in danger of being so far up themselves they’ll turn inside out – but the view there is that jingles test badly with the audience – hence no jingles. Now I know you’ll give me Chris moyles as evidence but his show is different to the rest of the day in terms of imaging.
not saying I agree – after all I’m a jingle collector but seeing as far as I know you are not involved with Radio 1 marketing and imaging then you can harly accuse me of talking poo poo can you! Although you are welcome to argue that jingles help a stations sound – but its not me you have to convince!!
