This isn't the first time that BBC Local Radio has tried to roll out a 'generic' package. Anyone remember the efforts from around 12 years ago with the twinkly bits everywhere? There were a few companies involved. I think Steve England was one. I remember WM stuck it's head in the ground and carried on with the JAM cuts for a few more years.
January 12, 2010 at 1:33 am #72081scaryI assume the jingles rolling out nationally are different to the ones launched today on BBC London? They're the same musical 'church bells' logo they've had for almost 10 years but heavily orchestrated. Sounds quite good but not as good as the previous guitar based ones and a bit too similar to LBC.
They were done by Music4 although they've not put them up on their site yet

Sorry I'm new to this and didn't get my message in last time!
The new BBC London 94.9 jingles are just vamped up from the package they already had. The new BBC local corporate package is completely new.

February 6, 2010 at 11:39 pm #72333mbMemberIt would appear that local Editors are invited to use it when their existing package is EOL'ed but don't have to. Of coyurse many will as they know little about station imaging but there will be a few who realise that that this package is tut and go for something else.
February 7, 2010 at 7:31 am #72336February 7, 2010 at 1:03 pm #72338mbMemberIf they won a 20 way pitch based on the crap they delivered then you really have to wonder how the pitch was conducted. And I think they are in a land of thier own if they think it sounds good on air, brings anything to BBC Local radio image wise or stands up against anything the major players in this area regularly produce. As far as I can tell they specialise in wallpaper music for dull idents and themes for unknown tv shows.
February 20, 2010 at 9:21 pm #72523simonp4Accroding to the S2Blue on Facebook – they have been doing soime work for a BBC station this week.

February 21, 2010 at 10:44 am #72529mbMemberIt seems that they don't “have” to take the package but are strongly encouraged to. Depends on how much the editor feels about imaging I guess. most BBC Editors are from journalistic backgrounds and therfore the music and imagaing on the stations are not thier expertise they focus more on the news side. There are some very strong minded editors who do have views on imaging and sound and I think these will be the ones cutting thier own path.
February 25, 2010 at 1:17 pm #72597GBBBC Newcastle, BBC Tees, BBC Radio Stoke and BBC Radio Cornwall have now taken the new Mcasso package aswell.
February 25, 2010 at 7:54 pm #72599mbMemberHmmm so newcastle and Tess sound identical that works!!! Sheesh
February 25, 2010 at 8:23 pm #72600simonp4S2Blue say they've another BBC station in for the next 2 days working on their imaging…
February 26, 2010 at 1:11 am #72606simon_t123MemberOf course the question is … which BBC stations have S2Blue got in ???

I wouldn't have minded so much if it was a handful of station dotted about all over but i hope, as stated earlier, there are more strong willed station mangers who care what it sounds like rather than being a carbon copy, or a variation of a carbon copy, who stick the “their” sound.
Sounds like BBC Locals have lost their way. The areas they represent are very diverse from each other so it figures that a station sound needs to reflect that. However, money talks and people walk and this still seems to be the case.

The package is airing on BBC Devon, they started the new year with a new schedule and introduced these jingles… they sound random on air at the moment but I'm sure the listening auidence will soon get used to them.I think BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and BBC Devon kicked off using their Music 4 packages at roughly the same time. However BBC Radio Cambridgeshire are still using Music 4 (Caught a bit of Gillam Gold last weekend) kicking and screaming towards that cruddy new package.
February 27, 2010 at 6:31 pm #72635GBActually, whilst there is an implication on Mcasso's website that BBC Tees will be taking the package (it mentions BBC Tees in the jingle examples), they are still using their Music 4 package currently.
March 3, 2010 at 8:37 pm #72755simonp4A chum tells me Radio Humberside are preparing to launch new jingles.
March 3, 2010 at 9:49 pm #72757LenGroatAfter the announcement about the BBC's plans to close some radio services, I do not think many people in Beeb Local will be 'kicking and screaming' about this?
To me BBC Local radio in most areas sounds 15-20 years behind the times, it's 'safe', and 'fuzzy', more like Beatrix Potter Radio. It needed dragging into this century, but these 'idents' (you cannot really call them jingles) and syndication, are NOT the right way to go.
March 3, 2010 at 9:57 pm #72758simon_t123MemberBBC locals have some sideways glances in the recent BBC shake-up business. I think it was saying they need to re-focus their aims, focus on breakfast, mid-morning and drive with the possibility of increased networking. I guess a similar imaging package on the stations assists the push towards networking but it's reassuring to know that some Beeb stations have been into S2Blue of late
On the subject of Beeb locals I always hoped they'd go for a younger audience actually, a younger targeted information & music mix. The Heart stations generally provide less & less localised info now & yes the over 55's need catering for, but Beeb locals are great when you are on the move. Youth-inate them I say lols
March 4, 2010 at 7:04 am #72759fredgreekI think we're lucky that the BBC have any jingles at all following the latest announcements!
March 4, 2010 at 8:16 am #72760InfernoI remember when I was 11 and 12 listening to the likes of BBC Radio Derby that they had BBC Radio 4 News at 1.00 till 1.40pm and Afternoon Special, which was networked in the East Midlands, from 2.00 for a couple of hours. And who can forget BBC Radio York. The station that went for lunch which closed from 1 till 3 in the afternoon. It seems those days are coming back.
March 4, 2010 at 1:10 pm #72762simon_t123MemberOn a slightly off topic point about BBC 6 Music, surely as the station name emphasises the music they can just save a packet & run a credible music only service, playing the music that 6 Music is well known for ??? Even with the Beeb locals if “average joe” can run a professional sounding internet station that enjoys healthy listenership for a few hundred pounds a year then why can't some of those simple practises be adopted by bigger players ? An automated, music led 6 Music would cost peanuts, and just cascade some of the displaced talent over to Radio 2.
Back to topic, I keep checking s2blue.com lols, I'm really keen to know which stations are going against the Mcasso branding
March 4, 2010 at 1:11 pm #72763simon_t123MemberI used to love BBC Essex as a kid, my first real “anorak with a tape recorder recording jingles” station
