Yes another refresh, they haven’t completed the roll out of the quietly rolled out 2018 one, and some still have not to had the 2015 set. With the 2010 one they are hoping to get the package out to all stations simultaneously so that all stations have a uniformed sound, as some stations have been doing their own thing.

It shouldn’t be that difficult. The TV regions managed to do a Graphics and Music relaunch on the same day, which is a lot of work for those involved.
Just supply the new package components in plenty of time, and give all the stations a relaunch date that they can’t delay.

2018 one? The latest package is 2015, I know some additions were made in late 2018 but not a entirely new package.
August 3, 2019 at 1:55 pm #104034GrahamCollinsReading the pitch invitation, already it is way too complicated to be managed properly and all they will get is another version of what they’ve already got, so you have to ask why are they bothering ? Just force everyone to have the latest Mcasso pack and re-licence it for another 3 years or is this too simple ?
20 themes ? What for, when we know they’ll only ever use 2 bits of three of them ?
I still can’t get my head around why BBC Radio Guernsey cannot have EXACTLY the same imaging as BBC Radio Manchester ? Just change the station voice if you want a local nod.
The fact that it bangs on about ‘proven track record’ means only the same few companies will show any interest.
I can’t wait to be underwhelmed by this waste of the licence fee.
August 3, 2019 at 10:44 pm #104036star tetleyI am surprised they are introducing this so soon with some stations still not using the latest package. I think the recent change in music policy and the move away from news has forced them into making the change so quickly and it looks like this time stations will have no option to delay. It will certainly be a difficult balancing act to come up with something more modern but also suiting the sound of BBC local radio.
August 4, 2019 at 10:18 am #104038IainJohnstonI’ve said it too many times before, but if this lot can have consistent high-production-values jingles
across FORTY-FOUR “local/regional” stations and still have “local inserts”/liners/etc for local frequency
tags, programme opt-out/join-ins etc etc etc, then why do “Les Rosbifs” have to be so useless at it?From Champagne to Isle De France, Pays de Savoie to Haute Normandie… (with apologies to Swansea Sound ;^) )
August 4, 2019 at 10:58 am #104039mbMemberI agree Iain France Bleu always sounds good – BBC local radio sounds more old fashioned , fuddy duddy, dull and lifeless now than in the late 80s! You can argue that there were some not so great packages but many were quality productions. I’d love to see David Arnold work on this but I think the financials don’t make it worth while to do. I think the current imaging has helped make BBC Local radio unattractive and unappealing to new listeners. Whilst its the actual content the sound of the station is part of the overall package. Added on top of the dull production is even worse production – those new 3CR voices are dreadful. The expereiment a few years ago where BBC WM used “locals” great idea in practice didn’t last (as I predicted). The brief just wants same old same old – as GC says it’ll end up being another set of idents like the current – so whats the point!
August 4, 2019 at 6:28 pm #104040JasonRNFThey should have forced some to move on months and months ago. Sussex/Surrey have a producer who is too busy juggling Berkshire and 3CR, Hereford/Worcester have a producer who still keeps updating the previous generation news ID, Kent’s is the worst one I’ve heard by far. The first few notes of the 60″ news repeated over and over for all programme beds and also recycled for the news build up.
The 3CR voiceovers do sound better than they did at Christmas. Even the producer said that he preferred the new voiceovers (why didn’t he just change it when he took over in December?)
The current package is a mixed bag of utter drivel (BBC Radio Leeds travel for example) and some really nice sounding cuts. The big band sounds brilliant when compared to the normal ‘regular’ beds, however, this is usually relegated to Sunday afternoons. How on earth does Berkshire get away with pratically having its own package whilst Northampton are left with the same news jingle for 3 years and one screetchy female voiceover (who is overused within Local Radio imaging)?! Surely they should just focus on getting stations up to date?!

Kent have done a very strange edit on the sonic logo, only leaving the last 3 notes.

That’s just the main three notes from the sonic, normally used for a headlines exit stab.

There was a new sounding package composed and released in 2018 to run along side the 2015 one.
August 10, 2019 at 6:28 pm #104054mbMemberIt’s so dull no one notices updates – that and people hack the tracks to shreads misuse them and use dreadful voices over the top. Mcasso got the job because pretty much every other production company decided it was not financially viable to go for it.
November 3, 2019 at 12:00 am #104319JasonRNFSomeone has had a word at Radio Berkshire. Complete reset on everything. Travel was a remix of the custom package used on 3CR/Sussex & Surrey, but is now a short excerpt from an Mcasso travel cut looped.
News tail, weather, headlines, travel (as mentioned) and programme beds were all custom productions from an unknown company/individual. I knew some stuff on 3CR was from IQBeats in America, but there is no evidence to suggest they made anything for Berkshire. Not that it matters now, Mcasso back for good it seems, until the new stuff in 2020 (if they are still going ahead with that)

Clearly so uninteresting / noticable no one noticed or cared

Precisely.

There still seems to be quite a bit on there that is not Mcasso. Definitely a cross-over with 3cr with the Andrew Peach/Treasure Quest bed and the male voice-over.

But there has still been a significant cull on the custom stuff. It was getting to the point where the only Mcasso produced jingle was the news build, and I suspect even that was a custom job and had been modified.
