” a refreshed Mcasso package”
I’m sorry, but isn’t that what the school teachers (and headmasters!) in our band of discerning proper-jingle fans would describe as an oxymoron?
May 12, 2012 at 9:33 pm #84132local_12Sorry headmaster OK, I was stretching the meaning of the word ‘refreshed’ when it comes to Mcasso but what I meant to highlight was that it seems all but confirmed that the plan IS to rotate the packages amongst the stations until the follow-on package.
May 13, 2012 at 12:33 am #84133simon_t123MemberEssex STILL stale & overdue … but good to read that stations are having a bit of a refresh I wonder how many years Mcasso will be the imaging choice … maybe a rotate of each package around the stations !!!
May 13, 2012 at 10:37 am #84134mbMemberIts hard to say – the BBC now own the material so they could use them forever if they chose, with the cost cutting and DQF and local radio run by news people with no clue about making interesting radio or imaging I suspect it’ll be there a good while.
May 31, 2012 at 10:12 pm #84400star tetleyI’ve heard some new Mcasso stuff on BBC Radio Northampton being used for a Jubilee Weekend trail. Are all of the locals using a special piece for the Jubilee celebrations?

Yeap, special bed for that. Will try and post later in the weekend. Suspect there will be Olympic cuts too soon.
June 4, 2012 at 9:02 am #84450tom_hWM is now using London’s jingles, but still with a the standard three note ending. Not sure if this is because of the Olympics, Jubilee or are now the standard. They have a new breakfast show from today so this may also be the reason for the change.
Whatever it is, they’re poorly put together. Lots of different styles, mixed together. When they launched the Mcasso package on WM it sounded very good, being used like other stations however it was recently changed to make more use of beds but the production has been poorly done.

June 6, 2012 at 6:48 pm #84527tom_hRight, I’ve just joined soundcloud and I’m trying to get this to work. So it may not.
I’ve attatched audio showing the new jingles used by BBC WM. I think they’re much better than the one’s they’ve replaced.
July 20, 2012 at 8:31 pm #85477VinnahSo I’ve got used to most of the Mcasso stuff now and although it’s nowhere near as good as the old stuff there are some bits of it which I think are good.
BBC Surrey/Sussex Travel
BBC Coventry & Warwickshire News
BBC 3CR WeatherI’m sure some of those cuts are used on other stations but those are the ones I’ve heard them most frequently on.
Has anyone noticed that BBC Berkshire’s travel seems to be slightly different to the other cuts on offer, the first time I heard it a while ago I had actually thought they moved away from Mcasso until the B-B-C notes played at the end of the travel bulletin.
July 21, 2012 at 1:19 pm #85484simon_t123Memberthe brief then for the LR-wide networked evening show (to start Jan 2012) …

July 21, 2012 at 2:09 pm #85485simon_t123Memberin there it says under ‘we will provide’ … “a jingle package”
July 22, 2012 at 1:05 pm #85494mbMemberI’m not sure most of the management in BBC LR could could supply the things on the what to supply list!
July 22, 2012 at 8:02 pm #85500simon_t123Member@mb lols I was considering writing a pitch for this gig … I think I could do it for a tenth of the budget quoted as a one man band production team !!! seriously mind the brief makes for an interesting read shouldn’t be too hard a show to produce & create ? the beeb get to choose the talent by the looks of it, I wonder how easy it is to pitch & know what you’re up against as an indie production company if you’ve no idea on the talent you’ll get to work with … and you can bet the jingles will be Mcasso ! maybe a new theme just for the show
August 1, 2012 at 11:49 am #85645local_12Just heard a special Olympic bed in use at the start of the BBC Sussex/Surrey drivetime show which sounds slightly similar to the Jubilee one.
August 1, 2012 at 12:07 pm #85646simon_t123Memberthey are pretty similar @local_12, I guess the Jubilee was a one off & did them nicely for the Olympics too ? R2 are using an instrumental version of one of their more orchestral cuts for some Olympics IDs … I would have thought BBC London would of had a different news intro musically for the event, in Essex we had a jubilee news intro that would suit the Olympics nicely
August 24, 2012 at 10:16 pm #86109ShaunMooreHave I gone mad?
Listening back to Friday’s breakfast with Mike Read covering for Andrew Peach on BBC Radio Berkshire, the first bed he uses out the 7am news, is it an IQ Beats one?
Sounds like a familair cut from one of the Heart packages?
August 25, 2012 at 4:07 pm #86127VinnahBBC Local radio in the East has made some more changes.
The Top of the Hour is similar to the source stations but without a voiceover, for example Sue Marchants show is not the exact BBC Cambs ToTH.
Travel news is now completely generic, using the same package as Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, Northants and 3CR.
PresenterIDs are now completely generic, localised ones are not played anymore, Sue Marchants one is just a voiceover!
Richard Spendlove still uses Music4 which is great.
Basically in the East all of the local branding is gone from the regional shows which seems like such a step backwards, I really don’t know why they would take this move as the timings seemed to be fine, if they worked pre Mcasso in theory the timings would be even smoother with Mcasso.
I wonder what the first station will be to move away from Mcasso if this is even allowed, some of them are sounding very boring now, especially 3CR which used to update their jingles in a regular basis.
August 28, 2012 at 7:56 pm #86200simon_t123Memberooo @ShaunMoore, that IS an extended version of a Heart / IQ Beats ‘time tunnel’ cut I think … as for why it’s appeared on BBC Berks well that would be a mystery !!! I’m not aware of IQ Beats releasing Heart material, especially recent cuts on any of their production CD’s … might of been something Mike brought in, but it had an Andrew Peach promo on the out tag … whatever the case it’s better than a Mcasso bed
August 28, 2012 at 7:59 pm #86201simon_t123Member@Vinnah agreed re: stations sounding stale … Essex … STILL !!! I’ve not really listened in the region recently, but heard stations own local news intro’s being played without the local VO’s, the individual logos seemed to match the station I know the shows to be coming from … all a mystery … of course from January it’s ALL due to change to this national show …
October 21, 2012 at 10:33 pm #86825simon_t123MemberI read an interesting article about the forthcoming England wide evening show to air on the BBC’s 39 local stations … The article places ex Radio One “Hatchet Man” Matthew Bannister heading up the production company that will see ex-Classic FM / Virgin presenter Mark Forrest present a 3 hour evening show in a kind of “One Show” style showcasing the best of English life … Interestingly the show will be produced at BBC Radio Leeds and not in Salford in an attempt to keep humble roots it seems ? Forrest currently presents on Radio York, Bannister I beleive presents for Five Live … The show is due to start in January, the brief specified a “jingle package” would be supplied so maybe some new mcasso on the horizon ???
October 22, 2012 at 10:21 pm #86829tom_hI’m going to guess it’ll just be standard Mcasso cuts, with each station using their preferred voice overs, so the show imaging doesn’t sound odd compared to the rest of the stations input. I guess as long as the jingles are the same length and the vocals are in the same places it won’t matter.
October 24, 2012 at 1:37 pm #86837simon_t123Member@tom_h most probably the standard Mcasso fayre … maybe even the Leeds news intro but hopefully a new designed suite of cuts based around the LR logo … such a big project needs a bit of an introduction after all Mark Forrest is a good broadcaster from what I’ve heard of him, it’ll be interesting to hear how the show works out …
as for imaging, here in Essex we are now at 3 years at least with the same imaging, no refreshed cuts from Mcasso so I hope someone in production @ BBC Essex sees this in the months ahead lols I think you’re right the stations will have their own local choice of VO’s over any network cuts, so long as the musical parts of any imaging used match up it should sound ok …
all stations have their Mcasso packages now so this topic has gone a bit stale makes you wonder tho’ that the shelf life of imaging is 2 maybe 3 years so surely whatever comes ‘next’ for BBC LR will be coming soon ? probably new or remixed Mcasso cuts !

I think you are being optimistic! Having had this package done for all stations I can see the BBC using it for 10 years. I think the only change will be if stations decide on different voice-overs.
