      Afternoon,

As I’m sure you know BBC Local Radio is 40 this year. The anniversary celebrations include an internal BBC event taking place in Birmingham in November.

As part of this we’re pulling together the top 10 cheesiest BBC Local Radio jingles from the past 40 years!

One that immediately springs to mind is a JAM gem for BBC Radio Leeds, which includes the line, “If you’re stuck on West Yorkshire’s ring roads, or just behind a bus, then relax and stick with us……”

However, as ever the BBC archive is not overflowing with these treasures. So, we need your help please?

Can you nominate your all time cheesiest BBC Local Radio jingle, preferably with vocals, and if you happen to have a good quality MP3 send it to me please?

      chris.harris@bbc.co.uk

Once we’ve compiled the montage, I’ll post it up here for everyone to listen to.

We’d be really grateful if you could help. We need your audio by the end of October.

      Thanks,
      Chris Harris

Ohhh Chris, hello. Some of the BBC Essex cuts from their launch package from David Arnold in 1986 were fairly cheesy …

“aunty hildas handy hints on bbc essex …”

sung in the style of … I'm not sure really, like the 1920's

Theres other Gems in that package like the DJ sing for “Donkeys Knob” lol …

I'm sure also there was a Radio Cumbria sung jingle with a more than healthy dose of sheep effects !

          I've got that cut !

On the same demo there's a Radio Humberside jingle that sings about the glory of “we are the one in Wetwang!”.Having being to Wetwang,I'm glad they are….

I'll have to find both of them out, plus the 1 minute Radio Lincolnshire song which goes on about “pilots flying far and wide” and Lincolnshire being “a special place to live”….

Keep an eye out here as I'll try to post them tomorrow!

Hello, as promised.. if a little late! Here's the montage we put together for the BBC Local Radio 40th birthday celebration.

Due to time restrictions, the final cut came down from the top 10 to the top 5 cheesiest jingles, still quite a bit of fun!

              Enjoy.

              Best wishes,
              Chris.

                Good choices Chris!
