Hi guys – long time lurker, first time poster here. I have been a jingle fan ever since I heard my very first JAM demo back in 1986 or so when I was working for a tiny little Radio station in the northern U.S.A.
Last year I rediscovered some of my old Jingle CD’s and demo tapes which I had amassed in my former career (unfortunately I no longer work in Radio)…. and man, there is some great MUSIC on those CD’s. As a part time musician myself, I really appreciate the musical artistry, the flow and pacing and attention to detail in the instruments and arrangements. In particular I enjoy the longer-length “Top of Hour” and “Ramp” type jingles, simply because there is more of a chance to hear some real musical development compared to the shorter “Shotgun” type jingles.
I would like to hear from you guys, what are some of your favorite “Ramp” and “Top of Hour” jingles, and why. I’ll go first (with what is probably an obvious choice for most of you)…… the Top of Hour cut from JAM’s “Breakthrough” package for WPLJ. There is something about the pacing and the musical flow that just works for me – it really has that excitement to it, that “rocket-ship-taking-off” type of feeling….. and when it lands on that “New York, New York” at the end – you really feel like you’ve arrived somewhere. All in the space of 14 seconds or so.
So to you guys who’ve been at this whole “jingle collecting” thing for awhile – what are your absolute favorite Ramps and Top of Hour type jingles?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts – and hopefully hearing some great new music in the process!
With best wishes for a Happy New Year,
-EJ
