BBC Radio Lincolnshire have dropped the Lincolnshire Poacher as its main TOTH / theme.
I emailed Charlie Partridge the Managing Editor who stated the following (and reproduced with his permission):
Dear Steve,
You are right, the Poacher has gone. Of course over the years, and different jingle sets, it has been watered down and down , from the full tune in 1980, to the barely recognisable dum didee dee da dum of the last news jingle. In fact when we last did some research into this, scarcely anyone realised that there was still a little bit of the Poacher in our jingles; so we took the decision to finally let it go with the new ones.
Why?
We wanted a younger, fresher sound and a break with the past, and we wanted to keep the costs down. Bespoke jingles cost a lot of money .And of course it’s the stuff outside the jingles that is the acid test as to whether a local radio station is local and relevant .
Thanks for your interest, though, and I promise to keep an open mind on the subject.
