      Hi all,

Does anyone know if BBC R2 are going to get a new jingle package?

The one they have now (1997 one) is sounding a bit old fashioned.

Does anyone know any =more info?

Why bother changing something if you are doing as well as Radio Two is in the ratings.

Yes but you must admit that the jingles especially the news jingle is sounding a bit tired.

Alot of people over on the R2 mb would like to see some new jingles for the station – I don’t hink the 2003 ones are that bad but surely they will have to have some new ones for the new presenters cming to the station (mark radcliffe etc)

I wish they’d not mix and match jingles, it sounds very wishy washy!

              I know the 2003 & 1997 R2 jingle packages mixed together don’t sound right.

BBC Radio 2 don’t seem that bothered with their jingles these days.

Many an hour goes by where the only jingles you will hear are the toh news in and a personality donut out of the bulletin.

Hardly imaging the station. Even the jocks who do play the odd cut away from the news break seem to have their minidisc players locked on the same three or four cuts. When you consider how many cuts must be available, it’s sad.

Nicky’s right I suppose, if it ain’t broke don’t try and fix it but eventually new faces will force change. I just hope they continue to avoid using sweepers !

                  HI C87M,

We have discussed this over on R2 board before (stopped posting over there now), who would you prefer to have as Radio2 provider of Jingles, I would say JAM every time.

Radio 2 used to have a VERY strong Image – “It’s All for You – Radio 2”. Their Jam jingles had personality, warmth and showbiz glitz.

Unfortunately since they changed to this new rubbish – they have lost all of these qualities.

The 1997 cuts were bad enough. However, these new ones are just awful. There’s nothing memorable in them. I certainly couldn’t sing one back and I’m a jingle anorak.

Radio 2 is a great station. However, they should ask Jam to produce them a new station package. Something modern, catchy and showbizzy.

Based on their recent jingles I can only think that Radio 2 have some spotty teenager in charge of their station sound. Very embarassing for such a massive station. The person writing the jingles was certainly a teenager using “Jingle writing for beginners” to help.

                      Hi SF1,

Not sure which company would be best. Was it JAM who produced the 1993 Its all for you jingles – I never knew that.

I think R2 is ready for a new set of jingles – seeing as they got a 2003 package from groove adicts – i wonder if they would go back to them?

                      All the best

(mr clout will prob be on the R2 mb)

                      lol!

I disagree completely. As strong as the JAM ones were, I don’t think you can say the 1997 or 2003 cuts are weak.

And I’m surprised you say you can’t sing any of the jingles back despite the fact you’re an anorak – BBC Radio 2 has extremely catchy jingles that many non-anoraks know instantly as Radio 2. Many a time have I heard someone sing a Radio 2 jingle (particularly that damn fine travel cut*) – even walking down the street, believe it or not!

                        (And I don’t think it’s the company I mix with…!)

*Incidentally, would anyone be prepared to send me the travel cut, purely for personal delectation?

The Radio 2 jingles from JAM were excellent and right for the time. No-one can deny that!

But Radio 2 is a very different station now to what it was in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Just look at the music they play!! The idents from Groove Addicts have helped Radio 2 to re-invent itself into the station it is now, appealing to a much wider audience than the slipper-wearing oldies it used to reach!!

The Groove Addicts jingles have a very catchy and memorable logo. I agree that the 2003 cuts aren’t as strong as the 1997 originals, but I don’t believe it’s right to bring JAM back, unless they produce something more contemporary than the “It’s All For You” package.

It’s all in the brief…..It’s all for you must have been produced to a very specif requirement for jingles to JAM, Folk, Brass Band or Standards style jingles don’t just pop up in a package at the whim of the jingle company they usually have a specific requirement. The JAM 20 years CD shows show they work with stations at every step of each cuts development therefore they are approved at every stage of development. I’m sure that JAM could produce more contemporary style jingles for Radio 2. But it seems that its easier to brand JAM as out of fashion or old fashioned rather than understanding that they are a production company with many years of experience and talent to draw upon to provide the sort of IDs that a client specifys.

‘Its All For You’ is indeed from Jam. It was released in 1992 and can be found on AC 1. There was also ‘Its All For Christmas’ from ’93.

I’m not saying JAM couldn’t do a good job – I’m a big fan of JAM and all the work Jon & his team have produced over many years. I was simply responding to other forum comments suggesting we should bring back the Radio 2 jingles as they used to sound. I don’t think they would now fit the stations format. I’m sure if Radio 2 went to JAM with a brief for something more contemporary (just like Radio 1 did in 1990), JAM would come up trumps and do a very good job.

Radio Two continue to use Groove Addicts! The network do update them on a regular basis.
