For my 100th post on this fine web site, I thought it should be with a montage.
Let me fill you in a little bit about WLOL.
WLOL was on the AM and in the Twin Cities for Years. In the Mid 60’s WLOL experimented with FM radio. In 1981 WLOL switched totally to FM.
This station was HOT! Music was custom mixed every hour. The DJ’s were awesome! More promotions were done by WLOL than any other station in the Twin Cities. WLOL promoted new music by local artists whenever they could.
99.5 WLOL died on February 27, 1991. 😥
This montage is of some liners, and some great JAM jingles produced for the station. The last several minutes of the montage are of John Heinz saying good bye to WLOL and the you hear KSJN 99.5 sign on the air.
Since February 27, 1991 WLOL has surfaced 3 times in the Minneapolis/St. Paul radio market. It was never the same. It came back to life on the air 6 months ago as a 5,000 watt AM station broadcasting catholic mass all day. What a fate those famous calls have gone to.
This is another fine example of one of America’s Heritage CHR stations that bit the dust!

I hope you all enjoy this montage.

LOL about LOL. Seriously, that sucks. It’s just as bad as if “KHJ” were attached to a Spanish-language station…oh wait, that really happened.

Thanks for sharing this montage Jeremiah and thanks for the information too, it gives a great insight into what WLOL was all about and the montage has made me think………there`s another JAM package I wouldn`t mind adding to my jingle collection.

I am glad that you enjoyed the montage.
