Hi guys.
A quick question for all reading this.
Do you have a partner that simply does not understand your jingle collecting “Hobby” if that`s a suitable terminology?
Just sat having a quiet drink with the wife & i simply mentioned taking an mp3 player loaded with my fave jingles for a flight to florida which she thought an alien idea.
Surely i am not the only jingle enthusiast who is experiencing this problem.
what is it about jingle collecting that “certain” women do not understand.
Aparently [according to `er indoors] it`s a totally insane hobby.
RETORT AT WILLJanuary 27, 2007 at 7:30 am #28759ratnobMemberYou said it. I've just ordered some more JAM personal cuts and haven't yet quite broached the subject of why another JAM Creative Productions debit is about to appear on our credit card bill. She think it's utterly mad. My two kids think it's funny in a deeply cheesy kind of way and are happy so long as I don't play jingles to their friends.
But it could be worse – rampant alcoholism (I try to keep that at bay), a life of crime, etc. At least it's only jingles. But the fact that I go for a 20-minute cycle ride every morning with jingle compilations packed on my iPod only adds to the thought that I should perhaps be referred to a therapist.
On the other hand, as we obsesseive and long-term collectors know from JingleMad, we're not alone and are in good company.
So load the mp3 player, Rob, turn up the volume and enjoy that flight to Florida.

I'm happy being odd :p

What a great idea!
January 27, 2007 at 9:53 am #28762bossjockMemberYou are SO right. It's taken me years to “train” my wife to stop talking between records when I have the radio on in the car, so I can listen to the jingles / imaging etc. Listening to jingle montages etc when she's in the car is a complete NO NO! My kids (grown up now) just roll their eyes in a “what a sad old git” kind of way. That's why sites like this are so therapeutic – I am not alone!!
January 27, 2007 at 3:36 pm #28767topcatMy late wife (may she rest in peace) put up with a lot of things when it came to jingle collecting. I started the volley with “I've been collecting these longer than you've been born.” But … you know, she was understanding and supportive…even when I came back from Dallas with 106 cartons of reels in-tow (showing up by FedEx on the doorstep).
The funniest thing was after the twins were born and she was singing the theme from PAMS “Happy Difference” to them. I didn't think I'd played that enough for her to know it — but was wrong.
Hopefully your spouse / significant other will have the patience that my wife did … and support you in your endevors. It sure made things a lot easier around here on occassions like when we were in Dallas for a wedding and I jetted over to JAM for the afternoon to hang out. (and that was BEFORE we were married)January 27, 2007 at 3:58 pm #28768MikeBrownYeah Rob, my missus hates it with a passion so I've been winder her up recently by swapping her sh*te CDs with CDs of jingles and by ringing her up and playing jingles down the phone to her! Hahahaha!!!! Anyway gotta go, I dont think ive given her a burst of one for a while!……….

exclusive!Children however can be nurtured and encouraged to at
least follow in their errant father's misguided footsteps and
build upon their own natural musical aptitude – at 8 years
old on holiday in France my daughter could do a very good
Freeway Nostalgie TOH and now at 17 she's in the school
Senior Choir – so must be doing something right!(In any case, jingle collecting may be a bit daft – but at least
its not as dodgy as what my next door neighbour collects
on DVDs…! )January 27, 2007 at 6:57 pm #28779JingleMadMemberAuthorwixy1360 wrote:

Sorry Pete! – can't think how they made such a connection ?!Anyway, what's wrong with collecting videos of Wild Birds?
January 28, 2007 at 11:23 pm #28794robertpobjoyheya – right, well speaking as the young person here – i'd want anyone of you guys to be my dad (as long as you had a big decent collection, and let me into it. lol).
My folks hate my collection, and I always get the micky taken out of me
But it makes me happy – and thats all what counts. I'm lucky as one of my radio friends understands it – but he is the only one. lol.
