MemberInteresting that it’s up to £127 at the moment. Perhaps when I get very short of money I’ll flog my one!

I have them all – and got them simply by writing to Paul Robinson

So at least I can say, I had an original Radio One CD in my possession for 120 minutes !
I just hope you guys are bidding for an original…

MemberI really can’t understand why anyone would bid stupid amounts like that for something most of us have already
Original or Copy whats the difference (audio-wise) ?
You could get one of the cuts customised for that price! 😆February 22, 2006 at 5:58 pm #19710stevo
Looks like the real deal if you enlarge the pictures of the disc and CD cover but is it really worth paying all that money when you can get a copy from Steve England (minus the artwork) for a fraction of the cost?

Nice to have but a bit expensive, considering one went for £35 on ebay last year! Does anyone remember the competition ceefax did in 1987 to win one of those cd’s? I’m sure a lot of anoraks were gutted when they didn’t win – me included!

is he still cloning radio 1 cd’s?
a couple of mine i bought had sticky steve england labels on the disc.and when they came a bit loose i decided to pull them off.and in the process removed the recorded surface off the discs (cheapo discs i expect!).all i was left with was two transparent discs 👿February 23, 2006 at 11:16 am #19715rak

Most definitely gutted when I checked that Ceefax page back in 1987 – I was one of the six or so runners up listed on the page as well!
I bought a 1992 Radio One original CD a year or two ago on a private online non-Ebay auction. Got it for about £45, which I thought was fair for what’s a collectible original.

To remove labels from CD’s without damaging the surface use simple white spirit. Paint it on with a small artist’s brush and let it soak in. Repeat and repeat once more. Then wait about 10 minutes. Then lift one small section with your thumbnail and the whole thing will lift off, glue included. One overall wipe with a white spirit soaked cloth and then dry with kitchen roll.
Add label detail directly to non-playing side of disc with TDK CD writing pen.
Job done. No damage.
I’m in the process of removing ALL ‘stick on’ CD labels from my traded collection. As the labels dry out over the months the label shrinks pulling the disc into a slight saucer shape (I’m exaggerating here but you get the general idea). The disc can then become unreadable in a player or the laser only tracks for part of a revolution so you get a sort of helicopter rotor SFX instead of decent continuous audio.

MemberAuthorJust to conclude this thread, the CD went for £161.00 to geoff2943 in the end.
I’m not sure it is worth that amount of money just to have the original artwork, after all you could have a JAM personal cut for that!

Yep, it’s interesting to see that the bids are currently up to £20; I don’t see the point in shelling that much out for a copy! If the price goes any higher I wonder if we will see “bootleg” copies coming up for sale? 😡

It’s funny… I look at stuff like this… then I look at the top of my file cabinet with the hundred plus originals of jingle demos I have multiple copies of and the cash register starts to ring in my head.
I was visited by a collector this past week who was eyeing some of the discs. He thumbed through and was interested in about twenty of them, which I kindly threw into a bag for him to take with him. Gosh what revenue I just gave up from eBay. (laughing)
All in all…. It’s my opinion that a duplicate is just as good as the original. I know that it frosts my cookies, as well as some of the original producers, when someone puts together a compilation of materials to sell on eBay. I’m not talking about the ones discussed here… but the ones that a couple of people have been compiling and selling multiple copies of without the original producers permission.
Okay… I’ve rambled on enough and will step off my soapbox now.
