WGN Chicago gets JAM jingles

edited October 2019 in Jingles Today!
JAM updated the rotation of station logos on their front page recently, and one entry that stood out to me was WGN Chicago. Sure enough, they're airing resings from the WABC Top News package.

WABC itself is also listed again - they're mostly using instrumental sounders, but with the occasional sung cut sprinkled in.

Comments

  • Don't see anything in their Demos for the WGN or the updated WABC Packages...:(

If its not a custom, it won't be in the demos; and even if a custom, would be the usual period
of "exclusivity" on-air before being offered to other potential clients?

PS - WGN 720 have been around a VERY long time - I even got a commemorative LP from them
away back in 1971/72! Last time they changed call letters was...1924 !

Great to hear that not only are they still broadcasting, but have the gumption to use JAM :^)
  • They use Top News cut 5 remix for the TOH.
    Sounds Great!!

Delighted. Top News is simply magnificent.
And great to see various new stations on the Jam website:

Listened this morning and heard cuts 10 and 16 being used as talk-over beds, in addition to cut 5 as their TOH. Superb.

If you guys want one, and if I end up with time this weekend (yay homework), I can put together a montage from their online stream.

I don't see any new demos on the JAM site. What do you mean by "new stations" on the site?

(Yes please! WGN is geo-blocked here in the UK)

Here’s a small WGN montage I've put together, featuring a couple of the current Jam jingles, for anyone who might be interested.

    Superb! Thank you.

  • Sounds good
  • Thanks for posting! The first cut sounds like a Nonstop Power remix.
  • Kind of "interesting" to hear a jingle for WGN (as they were always the "Non-Jingle" station in Chicago-- at least when i lived in the area (mid 70's).
  • Yeah, this change can be attributed to new management. I did see a few complaints on social media about it, but also some positive comments, and most importantly the ratings are on the upswing.

I remember (under the Chicago Tribune Management) when WGN (both Radio & TV) ALWAYS had "great ratings"--and WGN's Wally Phillips was THE "Morning Man" in Chicago. So, "New Management" CAN be quite the pendulum..

"I even got a commemorative LP from them away back in 1971/72!"

The LP had all sorts of clips & archive stuff, including a spoken ID of "WGN Chicago" - the radio home of millions across the Mid-West",
and the LP sleeve pictures included a sepia pic of a big "curved caravan"-style 1950s OB unit - nowadays on "OB unit" is a guy with a smartphone!.

For anyone who might be interested, here’s another short WGN montage I've put together, featuring a couple more of the current Jam jingles. Nonstop Power cut 21 and Top News cut 1, which is being used here as a weather promo.

  • Nice to hear that Jon has redone the brass "logo" notes to "fit" WGN
    :^)
  • LOVE IT!!!
  • Wow, nice use of Nonstop Power and Top News cut 1.

also, sorry I didn't get a full montage up on my end; I recorded from the online stream, but I haven't had time to edit something together.

    Sparkling! Thanks, Mark.
You are most welcome. Thanks Geoff and others for your kind comments.

  • WGN had a custom package from JonesTM (later TM Studios) called The Voice of Chicago. Someone on youtube has it.

I don't understand Why not just share the YouTube Link? ?

I can't find it on the TM Studios Site but I'm sure if you "Reach Out" ? they will post it! ?

  • I would sure love to hear "new" TM cuts for WGN. Under TM's new leadership, imagine if WGN got some (shorter, more evergreen) cuts from the '70s or even '80s resang for its current format? Pretty cool idea, if you ask me...and would be super unique on the dial!
