Just heard Magic 590 (WROW) in Albany, NY yesterday. Hooked! Now listening online. Good oldies mix with JAM, PAMS and TM jingles, some seem spliced together. Interesting and fun. Radio the way I like it.

I was recording the station via Total Recorder. Had some neat jingles etc. Then it came time to stop and save, the stupid program stopped responding. A half hour of jingles LOST!!!!! Arrrghhh! The joys of collecting.

                O-level geography Len!

Albany NY is the state capital, in upstate NY State; New York NY is…135 miles away.
Totally different City of License, and even if they’d both been on the FM they’d have been well beyond each one’s lowest FCC signal contour for overlap/interference even if they’d been on same/adjacent frequencies.

Plenty of same-package JAM stuff aired on UK stations much closer to each other than that at the same time (and indeed in/around Glasgow AT the SAME time – Clyde and Q96 as discussed a while back).

Magic 100.9 WKLI was essentially the same station – they moved to 590 AM a few years ago and had some of the same jingles resung while also getting ones that were new to them. Glad to hear they’re continuing to update the jingles – they’ve really got a great mix.

By the way Len, they are not owned by CBS, though they do run CBS newscasts at the top of the hour. They also used CBS-FM’s voice guy Ziggie.

actually, its a shame you all missed out on ‘legends 1540, wptr albany’.
it was a better product than wrow (which is a repackage of their fm-100).
wptr had a killer pattern, 50kw and covered the northeast better than abc, nbc, wor, or cbs.
they had a ton of pams and played a bit more brisk-mix (even old little richard tunes), but try as they might, they failed after 3 or so years. they flipped to “jesus radio” and have made money ever since, 7-10 years now.
good luck to wrow. if they control costs they might make it doing this. they do need a bit more flex in that playlist. the other big gun in that market is wtry.
