Just heard Magic 590 (WROW) in Albany, NY yesterday. Hooked! Now listening online. Good oldies mix with JAM, PAMS and TM jingles, some seem spliced together. Interesting and fun. Radio the way I like it.
jjJuly 26, 2012 at 8:38 pm #85563jonnoMembergreat find ! I’m liking the songs to jingles ratio… 2 songs and 2 jingles so far

Goodbye… BBC (Wise Buddah) Radio 2
Hello Magic 590 (JAM PAMS) Albany Noo Yawk !
If the BBC did this format for Radio 2…
….. they could save MILLIONS, wipe out ‘Gold’ and sound MUCH better!
July 26, 2012 at 9:25 pm #85566jinglejoeMemberAuthorI was recording the station via Total Recorder. Had some neat jingles etc. Then it came time to stop and save, the stupid program stopped responding. A half hour of jingles LOST!!!!! Arrrghhh! The joys of collecting.

O-level geography Len!
Albany NY is the state capital, in upstate NY State; New York NY is…135 miles away.
Totally different City of License, and even if they’d both been on the FM they’d have been well beyond each one’s lowest FCC signal contour for overlap/interference even if they’d been on same/adjacent frequencies.Plenty of same-package JAM stuff aired on UK stations much closer to each other than that at the same time (and indeed in/around Glasgow AT the SAME time – Clyde and Q96 as discussed a while back).
July 26, 2012 at 10:35 pm #85569BarrasHaven`t heard this station yet but from all the great comments here, can`t wait to get home and roll tape…well, roll minidisc !
July 26, 2012 at 11:09 pm #85570jinglejoeMemberAuthorYou’ll love it.
joeJuly 26, 2012 at 11:38 pm #85571jinglejoeMemberAuthorHey folks, we should all try to keep track of the cuts heard. I’ve heard GOLDMINE from PAMS (JAM?), a few different JAM packages plus cuts from TM’s WSB/WFBC, CLASSIC OLDIES. I know I’m missing something.
jjJuly 26, 2012 at 11:44 pm #85572LenGroatWixy: thanks for the geography lesson. I only visited Noo Yawk a few times, not my favourite part of the states, WABC, WCBS, Z100 were the best things about it ! Still have 1992 airchecks I did of WCBS FM using ‘Do It Again’ VERY early on …
Might Magic 590 be owned by CBS ?
I DO recall another station with the legal ID from ‘Do It Again’ ending ‘Albany Noo Yawk.. that was 3 or 4 years ago; anyone else recall that ?

The “Noo Yawk” was for WKLI and how`s this for an instant montage request Len….
July 27, 2012 at 1:09 am #85575mjb1124MemberMagic 100.9 WKLI was essentially the same station – they moved to 590 AM a few years ago and had some of the same jingles resung while also getting ones that were new to them. Glad to hear they’re continuing to update the jingles – they’ve really got a great mix.
By the way Len, they are not owned by CBS, though they do run CBS newscasts at the top of the hour. They also used CBS-FM’s voice guy Ziggie.
July 27, 2012 at 1:19 am #85576bobgreenradioMemberactually, its a shame you all missed out on ‘legends 1540, wptr albany’.
it was a better product than wrow (which is a repackage of their fm-100).
wptr had a killer pattern, 50kw and covered the northeast better than abc, nbc, wor, or cbs.
they had a ton of pams and played a bit more brisk-mix (even old little richard tunes), but try as they might, they failed after 3 or so years. they flipped to “jesus radio” and have made money ever since, 7-10 years now.
good luck to wrow. if they control costs they might make it doing this. they do need a bit more flex in that playlist. the other big gun in that market is wtry.July 27, 2012 at 2:12 am #85577jinglejoeMemberAuthorWow, what a fast worker! July 27, 2012 at 9:29 am #85586IainJohnstonMemberGreat aircheck David – and, with apologies to Len for lifting his Tagline – “radio like it used to be” – clear sounding, fresh as a daisy jingles & presentation, DJ with good diction and mixing levels, and no frantic screaming vocals! “Radio for grown-ups”
July 27, 2012 at 10:43 am #85588LenGroatAt last…. a topic of ‘Olympian standards’ on JingleMad… rather than the introspection and dissection of a package that had an 18 month “JingleJestation” !!
Barras: you ARE ‘quick off the ‘block’…. and it’s good to read everyone else’s comments here.
I can add some audio:
‘Do It Again’ Legal ID re-sung for Len Groat by Len Groat
Regulars will have heard it before but it’s the legal ID cut from the DIA again package – I missed it first time around in 1992 when I got the namecheck, weather , Best Oldies’ cuts for (the original) GEM-AM. I got it direct from JAM in 2007 for my Smooth Radio ’70s Sunday’.
TRANSPOSITION NOTE
It took me a while…. but I clicked that if you have a 2 syllable name like me (yawn), it works BEAUTIFULLY it you place it where the original sings
