Hi dear jingle lovers,
This month I started my new oldies show, using the retro cuts of Nice Move and the big sound of Twice as Nice from JAM's WNIC-series. I really love the Twice as Nice package – those cuts work really well with classic hits because of the PAMS retro-sound they have. Top Format did a really good job resinging them back in 2002 – the vocals are great. And so is our station voice!
We are still searching for a follow up, we've been using WNIC-stuff since 1998, and still cannot find the sound we need today…
Anyhow: here is an excerpt of how JAM sounds today between classic hits on 97.5 Radio Noord, rated #1 since 1989 and ever since in our area. Enjoy!

Hello Marc
A GREAT sound !
I can think of 3 JAM packages that I think would 'fit' with what you have : 'cherry pick' cuts from Omni Tracks, Special Touch and Bright Light !

The station is a modern full service AC, aiming at a 40+ core target group. The classic hits show has been very popular but musically doesn't represent the stations sound. Thanks again!
Cheers

And……I`m with Len on this one regarding Omni Tracks especially, I think it would sound great for your format and sound…

A bit difficult for marc to use i think, in holland we also have a station that's called SKY radio : )

It`s several years ago since SKY Radio used Omni Tracks though…
July 18, 2011 at 7:29 pm #79737MarcMannetjeYeah guys OmniTrax would work, but we are more looking for an overall new station sound. When used well, with the right sound processing, JAM still is my favourite, but we have to make the turn to a more modern sound, we also play a lot of todays AC artists, the instrumentation of those records is more leaning to acoustic guitar, piano, rhythm, well you know – and more and more jingle production companies appear with that sound, but after hearing those cuts they all seem to sound the same…
Still it is always a pleasure, this process…

Correct. However in the Netherlands it was common practice in the 21st century that once you 'bought' the jingles for your broadcast area. They never could be used by another station in that area. EVER.
A policy that the companies changed when interest in old packages grew. Hower the old agreements are still in place. Limiting the possibilities for other stations.

Memberahh they've had a recent package from JAM … 'Nice Move' how does that fit ? I bet your strap line fits in there ?!! By the way Marc can you please translate what comes after "Radio Noord" on your jingles ? It's a catchy sing in Dutch /wink.gif’ class=’bbc_emoticon’ alt=’‘ /> tho' I can see what you mean about the style, what we have today for WNIC is what we had yesterday in sound, still a fantastic JAM product mind, perhaps they need a massive refresh of style similar to what KOST had with their newer JAM material ?
Failing all else … Brandy seem to be producing some REALLY catchy jingles MarcMannetje

Memberahh Marc thanks for that info, I have wondered for quite a while & you are right the rhyme is just right on those cuts /wink.gif’ class=’bbc_emoticon’ alt=’‘ /> that would be quite good for you guys to check out, it's interesting in the Netherlands that stations keep the heritage of using certain jingle packages to themselves, I've long been a fan of Dutch Radio, as I mentioned Radio 10 Gold & first it was SKY Radio, although in the UK we all thought it was a UK station back in the late 80's … I guess the lack of a DJ & English lyrics to the jingles confused us
September 26, 2011 at 6:08 pm #80486MarcMannetjeI couldn't agree more Simon about heritage of a logo melody, look at what Z100 and KIIS and WMGK did: they even restarted using their sung audiologo after they discovered listeners could remember them even after years of not disuse. We have been branding it for years and will keep doing that.
Here are some Nice Move-cuts we use at the time:
September 26, 2011 at 8:16 pm #80489mjb1124MemberWNIC is known as "Fresh 100.3" now and their JAM jingles are long gone… the best we could hope for is that another station will commission a new JAM package that updates the "Nice" sound. I know that WFPG and WFAS are two stations that still use WNIC packages. Otherwise, I do think some of the cuts from Up2date and the 2011 KOST package could be adapted to Radio Noord's logo and would provide a tasteful update to the sound, but I'm sure those have already been considered.
September 26, 2011 at 9:21 pm #80492MarcMannetjeYeah MJB we have a production director who is in the middle of this process of comparing possibilities, anything is possible if you ask me. I love JAM but there are some really outstanding packages from other companies too – but the logo melody stays.
