Are there any radio stations currently broadcasting Bespoke Music Jingles?
being that Smooth Radio in my opinion was the only station left to have jingles by bespoke, I wondered if there were any major stations using Bespoke.

This question came about on my routine checking of Jingle Company sites to see if any new material had been uploaded. In Bespoke's case I cant see any and there hasn't been any for a while.

The second part of my question is what do jingle composers do when they don't have jingles airing, I mean does Tim James have other avenues? I mean going from having the radio investments / Local Radio Company Stations, and GMG, some BBC, to having very few or no stations airing the material, in way that they don't have income coming from fees, licenses etc.

I was thinking the same of Music4. They haven't updated their site in ages!

“what do jingle composers do when they don't have jingles airing?”

When I was at Smooth Radio I had a long chat with Terry Underhill (who was then in charge of the station idents) as I attempted to get through to him why I thought JAM jingles would be preferable as they fitted the 'smooth' style much more.

During our chat Terry explained about Bespoke. Tim James was already a composer, he had just never done jingles before, so was played examples of what they wanted and wrote jingles based on those.

His work for Smooth did not seem to encourage any other large groups to use Bespoke but I presume he still has work in other fields – jingles are a small part of the 'picture' ~ think of what a good composer can earn from the payment/ royalties for scoring just one film.

One of the sad truths of the merging of dozens of stations into just 3 or 4 services under one new name is that it will affect all jingle companies, regardless of whether we think they are 'good' or 'bad'. One key decision maker on each station will decide which company to use, and the variety of jingle styles we had 10 years ago is lost.

This = homogenised jingles for an homogenised industry.

Most jinglecompanies i know have at least 3 sources of income:
            – Radiojingles & imaging, (composing, resings and repeat fees)
            – Commercial production and other music scores
            – Libraries (which they licence to stations)
And some are expanding their expertise to TV scores & tv imaging

When I approached Bespoke for the idents for Phoenix, it was around the time Real dropped them. Whilst talking to Tim this obviously, in the interests if JM, came up in conversation, and he admitted his suprise at clinching the deal 3 times on the trot, so he wasn't overly shocked when GMG went elsewhere this time around.
I agree that website updates are lacking (if I'm honest, it would have been nice to see OURS on the Bespoke site as I had the vocals slightly re-arranged, as against the original Kingdom cuts & other resings of the same package).
Bespoke are more than just a jingle company, and one hopes Tim can weather the storm like the rest of us. For the smaller stations, they offer an affordable choice in imaging – something which needs to be preserved, otherwise…………….
