Hi
Anyone else heard the new travel bed – They used it with a fanfare this morning. I quite like it. It is different and there's a more modern feel to it.
Moreover has anyone yet got a copy of this in the clear.
I thought someone said that there was supposed to be a new news jingle although this hasn't appeared today. Anyone in the know can tell me if its happening and if there are any more new jingles in the pipeline. Thanks

The new news jingle has appeared today as well. Its very similar to the previous version so you have to listen carefully! Take a listen to the attached MP3 file.
Also for the benefit of those who haven't yet heard, I've put the first play of the travel jingle in before it.

October 11, 2010 at 5:37 pm #75875mloccoThe traffic jingle has a end, just like the other one. They call it a sting. Steve Wright played it. The news jingle is the same. Yes slightly been dressed up.
October 11, 2010 at 6:08 pm #75876mumossThe opening to the travel jingle feels a bit rushed, but I like the bed.
October 11, 2010 at 7:03 pm #75878BarrasAs jingle collectors and jingle enthusiasts – I guess we`re classed as extra-ordinary listeners, of course we can hear the “evolved” change (slightly !!!) but I reckon the ordinary listener i.e. the guy stacking shelves in the supermarker, mums and dads on the school-run with the radio in the background wouldn`t notice any difference at all.
October 11, 2010 at 8:14 pm #75883ratnobMemberHmmm. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Bit underwhelming, eh?October 11, 2010 at 9:51 pm #75884GrahamCollinsThe new news jingle is essentially a new mix of the old session tape – everything is in the same place but the sounds have been re-shaped. I like the travel bed. If Groove have produced it – well done. It sounds more polished and musical than before.
October 12, 2010 at 2:52 pm #75891IainJohnstonMemberOddly, when Chris Evans was “promoting” the “new” news & traffic jingles shortly before 7:20am on Monday, the phrase he used “evolution not revolution” and some other words sounded uncannily like what someone on JM had already written – does Mr Evans indeed “lurk” on JM?
:^)Sadly, the cuts appear to be simple re-mixes (or maybe slight tweaks); but before anyone gets too steamed-up about it, it should be remembered that even JAM ALSO “re-mixed” or tweaked existing R1 or R2 news jingles over the years – the difference is though that they did it a bit more frequently than once every THIRTEEN YEARS!
:^)(PS: consider what R1 would have sounded like in its heyday, if they'd used their SAME 1967 PAMS jingles continuously for all of 13 years all the way through to 1980, without ever buying any more than a handful of “freshen-up” cuts to supplement the “original” bundle? Just a (scary) thought…)
October 13, 2010 at 9:32 am #75909TimfairfaxI like the travel bed, but the opening is nowhere near as good and powerful as the old one. Even after 13 years I enjoyed listening to the travel jingle opening (and close when SW played it)
Are these from Groove?
October 16, 2010 at 10:39 am #75942newsbeatI would love to know where these came from. I don't listen to R2, mainly Radio 1(and Pure Tonic now have the contract for the whole station sound), but these sound great! I have a wide range of jingles, from R1 Newsbeat, Chart, Beds etc, so I'm willing to trade for some R2 News/Travel jingles.
October 24, 2010 at 9:00 pm #76087AndyWaltersMemberCan't say I'm a fan of the news jingle update. Sounds like someones put on the multitrack, whacked open the faders, sent it cracking through a compressor, job done. The previous mix sounded more well defined. I presume they did it to lessen the strings.
October 24, 2010 at 9:06 pm #76089mumossYeah, I've been giving the new news jingle a couple of weeks to see if I'd get used to it, but it's just not as nice as the old one.
Irritatingly, Steve Wright's 3pm junction now doesn't sound nearly as good either. He used to end his theme tune and blend straight into the news jingle, which sounded great – but it just doesn't work as well with the new mix.
