        Excellent news !

Thanks Bryan for mentioning this on Jinglemad, I know you didn`t have to but it`s great to be privy to this jingle news. There will be many JAM jingle fans (including myself) out there who will be pleased about this…well done to the management at KOST too.

All good things come to those who wait. Terrific news for all who love the classic KOST sound and many thanks for sharing it with us Bryan. We understand your excitement!

Reelworld have their place in the radio imaging world but it isn't at KOST and for my money, never was.

This has made my day !

This is fantastic news for JAM fans, I can't wait to hear some of the new cuts.

Nice to see a station that's not afraid to return to Dallas after trying something different, and presumably deciding that the Reelworld sound wasn't ever right for KOST.

The second I saw your name I 'heard' your namecheck 'in my head', the one where it sings it with string 'shimmer' behind, and a slight pause afterwards ~ THAT's why JAM make the best jingles ~ they are melodic and memorable! Thank you for the (advance) good news.

Well, BBC Radio 2 should be at the FRONT of that queue (line…) as its on-air identification is just getting stalerandstalerstalerandstaler

I'm a bit (lot) of touch – are there any UK stations using JAM at the moment?
I'm sure there must be some…

Last time I checked The Severn, The Wyre, and Telford FM were still using JAM, albeit badly. They have a habit a chopping bits off jingles to join onto production music, and making their own mixes. It sounds cheap and does no credit to the JAM product.

Telford was recently merged into The Severn, but I think they're still airing JAM.

I'm going off topic here, but as the UK representatives the Steve England or S2Blue websites could perhaps do with an update to encourage potential JAM clients.

Fab news, the two most recent KOST packages have been great and evoled from the slower coast 103 jingles. Fans of JAM or Reelworls this is one package we're all keen to hear!!!

I thought KOST was going to use Reelworld permanently, but it's not the case! I am really thrilled that KOST will air new JAM jingles very soon. Thanks for the great news! :D

I'm glad this news has been met with such approval. We're only using a small handful of cuts right now, mixed with selected cuts from Real World, but we are supposed to have more JAM cuts on the way. It's a start, hopefully I can tell you more soon. The director of AC programming at our cluster wants very up-tempo jingles, so that classic Coast sound may not be as evident, but JAM does such a fine job that I think you'll like what you hear. More to come I hope.

                                  Hey Bryan,
I'm in CA every 6 weeks and when in LA love tuning into KOST as since i started collecting jingles I've heard it on the demos. Reelworld make some awsome jingles, there are packages they have which i think are fantastic, fresh, vocally strong with great logo's. But the KOST stuff never really seemed to work for me as a fan of jingles. I loved the Toast of the Coast package and the Jingles from JAM got more up tempo each package.Whilst I love the AC sound of JAM its so exciting to hear the challenge of hearing something up tempo. This is the company that created the signature sound of KIIS and Z100 so I think it's in safe hands. The UKRD package that was produced ( and now ) had great tracks. So this is one reveal thats going to be much anticipated!!!!

I couldn't agree more Len. The only programme that has the right feel is Steve Wright with his AP jingles that he airs. I feel Smooth is really going to have an impact with their presenters and style that is more in touch. However, to be fair R2 does have a lot of different music styles. I am hoping that when Tony Blackburn takes over the Saturday “Pick of the Pops” that we might see some newer Jam jingles like he played for the special one off programme recently. On a different topic must say I like the new “Freesat” Vintage station on TV. The programming is spot on.

I am delighted that someone got through to the management and got JAM back on KOST. I've been listening on the web stream and while there are still some RW jingles, JAM is definitely alive on the station, and their jingles are instantly distinguishable from the RW ones.

Here's a montage of the JAM cuts I recorded off the stream. I believe the first one is a new custom cut, the second one is a remix of a cut from Up2date, and the last two are from older KOST packages. But feel free to correct me. Can't wait to hear more new cuts!

It seems that this is a perfect case of NEVER CHANGE A WINNING SIGNATURE SOUND.

KOST lost listeners to KTWV/The Wave partly because with choosing RW it lost some of it's warmth. JAM has been branded for years as the sound of KOST… I am very interested in the next few months!

Len, I should have emailed you first, sorry about that. Michael, JAM does great uptempo jingles, and we'll be going more uptempo with them for sure. Marc, I agree, we lost warmth and that friendly sound when we switched to RW, you're right.

Okay, I'm going to be honest here and hope I don't get in trouble. I find some of the Real World stuff from the 90's to be adequate especially for CHR, but the AC One product they did for us which was a re-sing of the package from our sister station WLIT Chicago is to my mind absolutely dreadful. When you opened the files they were mastered in the red, so they were distorted. They use a LOT of processing and effects as well. I find these aspects to be totally wrong for AC radio. They sounded more at home on a CHR format. Then there was the vocals. No way could they equal the singers at JAM, plus they were screaming more than singing, and there were too many female voices, not enough males. As for the music, all out of a keyboard for the most part. For some reason there is a movement to the make AC as up as an old CHR. The excuse I hear most often is that these newer jingles match the music better, but that doesn't fly with me either. We still play songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's that are slow and light and coming out of RW product you can't even hear the first 3 to 5 notes of the song because the jingles are too loud, it's a mixing nightmare. The weather jingle opens with an explosion, not right for AC. This is all my opinion of course.

I really don't know how much product from JAM we will be getting. I hope it's a full package. I know RW has it's fans, but I'm just not one of them. I'll hopefully be able to give you all updates, we'll see what happens…

You have written the 'bible' as regards what is VERY wrong with most of the jingles from the 'other' non-Dallas, British jingle companies:

Jingles for WLIT Chicago: 'when you opened the files they were mastered in the red, so they were distorted'

'They use a LOT of processing and effects as well. I find these aspects to be totally wrong for AC radio'

'Then there was the vocals. No way could they equal the singers at JAM'

'They were screaming more than singing'

'There were too many female voices, not enough males'

'As for the music, all out of a keyboard for the most part'

                                                I agree with you completely.

The 'other' jingle companies might do well to check the hearing (and musical aptitude) of some of their singers, engineers and producers….

I haven't caught up with all things jinglemad for over a week as my wife and I are currently on a 6 week coast to coast road trip here in the USA, and this is great news to read on the first post I viewed.

We flew into LA a fortnight ago and usually listen to KOST but didn't becuase the RW imaging just ruined the feel of the station when I listened last time I was in Los Angeles with work back in May. No doubt I'll be in LA again soon (with work rather than pleasure) and it will be great to hear some new JAM jingles on air.

                                                  Talking of how good the KOST JAM sound is, I'm doing a regular podcast for family and friends back home and have had some JAM personal cuts produced to give some personality to the production, one of which is the TOH from Today's Coast (cut#11). Here it is for you to enjoy and it sounds just awesome – the orginal was produced in 1996;

                                                  TDC11P&CBRoadTripFullMix.mp3

Jon did a great job in getting this produced and sent them to me a day before I left London which was just brilliant.

                                                  Enjoy! :)

Your jingle proves how AWFUL the choices are of 'the' people who control on-air identification in British radio, when a collector can have something vocally and instrumentally superior !

The people at Radio 2 should take you on as a 'consultant'! Bob Shennan 'eat your heart out' …

Bryan, "the excuse I hear most often is that these newer jingles match the music better, but that doesn't fly with me either" I totally agree on that.

The point is to be honest, that a lot of brass neither doesn't fit todays AC artists. When I hear Mika, Matchbox 20, Avril Lavigne or Train I always hear more string based instruments, piano, guitars. But it isn't a warm sound.

It takes a lot of effort/time/talent to compose, create a perfect jingle. As written on the JAM building, it takes time to make things. I have a good feeling time will also prove that quality jingles do make a difference.

Thank you for sharing these insights with us! Here's a compilation of mostly uptempo JAM KOST jingles made in the last two years. Just in case no one else had the time to make it…
