Of course we have the major companies like JAM, Reelworld and TM, and some big ones like WiseBuddah, Groove and IQBeats.

But what about the small companies who make an effort? I really liked these jingles when put on air in the 90s.

These are composed by an on air personality. He's really talented (did conservatory) but didn't take the risk to invest in a full orchestra: Ferry Maat http://www.ferrymaat.nl . Though the compositions really sticked in my memory.

What is your favorite small jingle production house?

what a great question. do you limit to the best still in business? if not; it is only pams. no exception. EVERYBADY, not just the trade, knows those tracks “go-go”! CRC had some good stuff too. however, often (tm had the same problem) way over produced…ideal for a M.O.R. or slush format. #25b & x and 47 being real asskickers. pepper/m.g./tanner? no. not so hot. free on trade, but not good. for today i now ask you who remembers a jam or realworld? nobody. no staying power. no catch or hook. of the 2 i like the rw product better. it just moves good and gets out of the way.
you want basic no frills? the mann tracks (often called drake) are ok, provided the price is right. the s2b stuff from england are not bad either. and i heard a package made in poland that was a hoot! quite well done and they had fun cutting it, can just tell listening.
lastly, in a rush? limited money? want a lot of personal attention? ben freedman still packages for half the price.

This is a catch-22 kind of question. if you're talking about TODAY, in the USA I'd spend MY money at JAM, TM or Tony Griffin Productions. But as I've said in other posts on here… it's like horse races…. pick your horse and run with it.

If you want to look to the past… I remember a conversation I had with a program director in 1973. He said “For rock… call PAMS; For MOR… call TM; For Beautiful Music… call Pepper-Tanner”. For the era, he was correct…. but times change.

Interesting! I meant today, still in business, let's say 90s and now. The composer I mentioned is also still in business… although doesn't produce on a daily basis anymore…

              You mean JAM or TM?
RW doesn't match up eithier of them.
Or any other jingle company. There is great ones out there that never get mentioned like GMI.

Aah GMI Media, they sounded already like Reelworld before Reelworld even existed. Seatle influences :) ? Still have some libraries I bought from them in the early '90s.

                  Reeeally great stuff, thanks all!

Magic-cuts are nice written, they really build… but to be honest they seem to get away from the writing tradition of logo integration and orchestration. Very distincive, never knew them though…

Kube-cuts from GMI tend to the TM-sound of the 90s or am I mistaken?

What about these French cuts, made by Paris-based Freeway. Still doing a lot of stuff mostly for French stations. You feel a bit the cheerful and summerly atmosphere of southern France…

Good shout there for Freeway…they also did a lot of work for Europe2 as well.

Keeping in Europe,I'm amazed nobody's mentioned Top Format yet. Some of their stuff for Veronica and 3FM is fantastic – great vocals, fresh production…it's worth visiting their site to give 'em a listen.

                    Here's a example…

Not sure if this is quite the same “category” but I do like David Lowe's work – he's done a lot of BBC stuff including the rather fantastic BBC News 24 top of the hour theme and idents: http://www.davidlowemusic.com

@ Bigdave YES I love Top Format to but I consider them to be very big (they did/do still a lot of major stations in major markets like Antenne Niedersachsen, VRT Radio 2, Radio NRW etc.)

@ DTmark I think I saw David Lowe at a conference explaining how 'internationally' he wrote the theme, I use it as my ringtone:-)
