Following the success of other Classic Hits stations in Canada and the US after the introduction of the new ratings measurement, EZ Rock in Toronto have ditched their AC format and relaunched as Boom 97.3. Out went the EZ Rock package from Wise Buddah and in comes the package attached. Any ideas who they're from?

I was listening to this station online some yesterday. It's far from what the classic hits stations here in the US are like (CBS-FM for example). The music was almost all 80s, and I heard several 90s and 00s songs. Obviously with this, along with the jingles, I was disappointed. I thought Toronto might've gotten a good replacement for 1050 CHUM.

          Sounds like Wise Buddah?

I have to agree with you, Jeff. After one listen to these jingles, I can't take it anymore(Reelworld rip-off!). Plus, when I did my radio DXing adventures to check in on 1050 CHUM earlier this year, I was treated to a simulcast of CP 24 News! :(

Seriously, radio is not what it was meant to be anymore.

Change can be good, or bad. I honestly feel that 97.3 is desperately looking for a winning formula since a couple of years, but nothing works. Even last year when they were promoting everywhere downtown Toronto that there was no more “wallpaper music” on the air, we could still hear Selena or Abba
              15 times per week!

They had great DJs a few years ago, but they all disappeared one after another (Mike Cooper,
Erin Davis, Tish Iceton). They all went to the closest competitor, CHFI, which is now no.1
in the market. The last personality that CJEZ lost was a tremendous talent (Darryl Henry),
              now gone, like others.

CJEZ (now CHBM 97.3) changed their jingles three times in the last 15 months going from a slogan to another, from a company to the other. As a simple listener, I feel that they do not know what to do to attract a faithful audience. I strongly believe that it is not only a change of playlist (or jingles) that helps to build an audience, but a steady image as well.

Like Paul, my money's on Wise Buddah, though they aren't listed on their site.

I REALLY cannot even hear the station name they are singing!

'BOOM' is a TERRIBLE name as it does not 'sing' well for clarity ~ 'B' and 'M' are both 'silent' syllables

They are also AWFUL tracks… and far too much…

                  ….. echooooooooooo

Just to be positive, if I was writing jingles for a station called 'Boom', I'd base the vocals in every cut around a central fx *+*+ noise (suggestng a BOOM of course!).. so the 'm' is sounded, and established before the frequency follows… ie:

                  'Boom ! *+*+ 97.3'
                  'Boom #~# Toronto's Greatest Hits'

They got the most important thing wrong, the name, and the composer (or station PC?) has NO idea. It will be downhill from here…

“Seriously, radio is not what it was meant to be anymore”

…and (going very slightly sideways) about to get worse in the States – Clear Channel (now in Bankruptcy Protection) has its freelance DJs etc receiving bouncing December paycheques “due to insufficient funds” at the corporate bank accounts.

The biggest commercial radio conglomerate in the world – skint – due to collossal debt-fueled expansion in a declining & disintegrating market.

I would think that every US ID jingle company worth its salt will right now be looking VERY VERY hard at how to use their studios resources & talent for serious non-ID recording work to sustain their operations (as we know e.g. JMW has been doing already).

The vocals sound like they could be Wise Buddah but I couldn't match them to any package on their site so maybe it's a new custom. I don't think they've updated their site in a while as there's no mention of the Orion packages yet.

They might have as much echo on air, that might just be the quality of the recording I made.

Go onto their site now and you'll find the whole Boom package (minus the echo Len!!) and the Orion stuff too.

I thinkthe word BOOM is very english in their singing.. and better without the echo
