Just reading on “jinglenews” about Beatle`s Day on Radio 2 in the UK…
http://www.jinglenews.com/2009/08/17/beatles-bank-holiday-on-bbc-radio-2/
Good jingles from Wise Buddah, nice sound, however, with me being JAM`s #1 fan (allegedly) I prefer JAM`s Beatle`s Day jingles from 1993..

August 29, 2009 at 2:07 pm #69451LenGroatI obviously prefer the JAM ones, sharper, incisive, clear but the aesthetics of which is 'better' is in this case not as important as the COST.
The BBC needs to make severe cuts in expenditure, to reflect the crisis in Britain. So WHY have they not just paid a SMALL re-licence fee for the perfectly good JAM material, rather than a much larger fee for new material (THREE for one day!) + BBC staff time in briefing Wise Buddah over these new jingles?
They are on air for just a week includng pre-promotion -so it is a SHOCKING waste of the (compulsory) BBC Licence pay fee as the LISTENERS will not notice WHICH was played!
August 29, 2009 at 4:43 pm #69455barrydavidallanbdaSomeone on the forums said that Radio 1 have a deal with music4 to have jingles made x amount per year (re: Scott Mills Musical) why didnt Music 4 make the Beatles cuts to reduce the cost???…… I like both the Beatles packages.. I want to like Jam .. but I think Wise B has the edge for me …and i dont want to say that because I hate UK jingles
Sometimes I get it wrong .
August 29, 2009 at 4:51 pm #69456mbMemberBecause Radio 1 and 2 are seperate “businesses” and if the deal with Music 4 is with Radio 1 then it comes from thier budget to cover thier production.
I have split views on some of thier imaging however Wise Buddah have been able to achieve a soun d consistant with the Groove package and that blends both with new cuts and singing over the Groove tracks. What can Music 4 add that Wise B can't – especially as they already have a working relationship producing material.
August 29, 2009 at 5:48 pm #69457AndyWaltersMemberIt's funny. When I first heard about the Beatles Weekend on Radio 2 the first thing that went through my mind was those JAM cuts that I can't have heard in over 10 years. I had the carts at some point.

The Wise Buddah cuts sound pretty good. I'd say it's a tie for me.
August 29, 2009 at 5:56 pm #69459RobinBlamiresYeah the JAM cuts were from “Rocking For America”. And yes I like the Wise Buddah cuts although I'd prefer them without the spoken tag at the start.
August 30, 2009 at 10:28 am #69472LenGroat… 'the spoken tag' parts were of course introduced on commercial radio in Britain, as a way of saving money/time on buying sung idents for groups owning 10- 30 stations in the days they had LOCAL names.. 'hands up' GWR..
WHY Radio 2 feels the need to use this style is beyond me. True it is successful (easy with NO ads and TV 'personalities as 'presenters') but it is a very uncohesive station style wise.

Perhaps we should ask how much they are spending via the freedom of information act? Then take it to the BBC Trust explaining how much they could have saved. I reckon Michael Lyons would take it onboard.
