Some of you may have these already in your collection, as I've posted them here in the past. However, we have a lot of new folks around, and I thought I'd post them again.
These are a series of off-air jingle montages from my travels around the United States as a teenager in the 1990s. While I became hooked on radio in the late 1980s listening to the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavilers (and Bruce Williams afterwords) on WWWE via skywave in North Carolina, jingles really became my passion in the 1990s…and, of course, they have been ever since.
The audio quality on these isn't the best…as 1). I was just a teenager and didn't care that much. 2). Most of them were recorded via a radio/tape recorder I'd take with me wherever I went (traveling in the car) with battery power always suspect. and 3). I edited them tape deck to tape deck using the same machine (no digital editing then for me) and 4). Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them back in the day.
Have a great weekend!

I do have a question concerning your fourth montage: What were the call letters for “Oldies 104” that you included in that montage? I know an “Oldies 104” in Dayton called WYMJ back in 1989-1994, but there could be others… (HINT: That station also included a few jingles from Otis Conner's Drake Series '88 package)
Please clarify if you have the time to do so. Thanks!
August 10, 2009 at 2:43 pm #69020am850wruffanWhere did the WMJI cuts came fron, bcoz?

The Oldies 104 cut is from KODS in Reno, NV. You'll note that the cut is sandwiched in between cuts from KJOI in Fresno, CA and KRNO in Reno, NV. I recorded them as we were heading up through Yosemite on a family vacation in 1996.

August 10, 2009 at 11:03 pm #69023am850wruffanAnd I also like the 3WE cuts in the montage! Can you do a WWWE montage?
August 16, 2009 at 12:58 am #69112tyty21hey bcoz, what was that news station 610 columbus jam cut, it was used in the real talk news package and WGY albany. it was also used for a music station, WOGL philidelphia. Nice to see KOST, and KOLA, and you put me right in the mind of that because i just moved to riverside 3 weeks ago! you forgot one of my faves. WJMK chicago, WIXX green bay, WRQN toledo, WROR boston, WQSR and WBAL baltimore, WAYV atlantic city, and next time i want to show my friends and family something. Mom's from shreveport, my coworker rose from phoennix, my cousin hope from atlantic city, now living in dallas, she loves KONO, but like to show her some KLUV cuts! my friend ingrid, she's from norfolk, so some more cuts from there. Plus my friend tracey daniels from tampa FL. She also lived in ST. pete, saint petersburg. and some from new york! have you been to wichitaw or flint, and or saint louis? The flint one is for my friend whitney, she's from there, barely reached detroit! and my family is also in gary.
August 16, 2009 at 5:17 am #69116tyty21yea there is 1 otis conner cut. also that 610 cut was WTVN. and that version of real talk was awesome! and now a different problem. in montage 3, when you went to the canton stations, the oldies station, what were the call letters, and the city name before canton? sounds like they're saying alliance? i know it's cool 92. In fact if you can remember, could you do a list of the stations played in all 4 montages? a few of them i know but what the heck.

Back in those days, WTVN was using a wide variety of JAM cuts. I wish I had more (and better recordings), but I rarely went to Columbus. Most of the cuts I presented in the montage were recorded while traveling on I-77 or from my grandparent's place near Cleveland. I've often said that if I ever got some time in the JAM vault, TVN would be one of my first stops.
As for the Canton-area oldies station (the TM Century Classic Oldies top-of-hour)… It's WZKL… licensed to Alliance, Ohio.
I'll try my best to go through and ID the stations, company, and packages in all the montages if I can this week. It actually will be a neat challenge given that most of the stuff was recorded between ten and fifteen years ago, but it will take some time.
Glad you enjoyed them! I'm always looking for more folks with off-air montages from that era (about 1989-2000) as that is part of the golden age of jingles for me.

August 18, 2009 at 12:33 am #69149cosgrovebmWell, this didn't take as long as I originally thought. Below is a log of my four off-air montages posted earlier in this thread. Some notes on how I put these together:
-I don't guarantee the accuracy of my information, although unless items are followed by a “??,” I am relatively certain of the information. If an entire field is a “??,” I simply have no idea (or simply forgot) the name of a package or company.
-The log isn't a log of every cut. Instead, if a series of cuts from the same station, package and company “aired” in a row, it gets only one entry. However, if any one of the three criteria changes (i.e. station, package or company), I created a new entry.
-In the case of many of the Thompson Creative series jingles (i.e. Houston Mix I, II and III, etc), I haven't included the actual package, but rather the series to which I believe the cut belongs. Despite the fact that the first jingle demos I ever received were from Thompson thanks to Ben Freedman, my knowledge of Thompson's product is perhaps the weakest.
-In the case of jingles produced by TM or its many incarnations and absorbed companies (read: Century 21), I have simply used “TM Century.” Why? It was easier that way.
-Out of all the cuts in my montages, there was only one I was unable to identify in terms of the station. That's a JAM Be Kool cut for “Cool 105.5.” I could have sworn that was from an oldies station in Las Vegas, but I've had trouble finding it.
-I'm sure there are more notes I want to include, but its been a long day and my brain is fried.
If you have any information on the items I'm unsure of, please feel free to post or message me.
I've got a few JAM-only off-air montages (some of it is repeated material… some is not) that I'll try to post in the next few days.
With that, here you go!

August 18, 2009 at 2:30 pm #69159tyty21thanks bcoz. i needed that. now it's clear as a bell. I was right on canton. hahahahaha! nice! a couple more suggestions, if you do orlando again, WOCL is using home of the hits cut 12 as a toh. if you did wichitaw, those KEYN fm cuts did the job. They used jam, tm, and now tony griffin i think. KXLK was doing fine with it's KDWB resings from jam. that was early 90's. and do you remember zz99 in kansas city? plus you could've done q104 in Kansas city when jam was doing that. they used from what i know hot kiis resings. if gulfport/biloxi was a destination, you should've heard WGCM “coast 102” an oldies station. From what i know, in the 90's they were using aca's. but now they dropped those and are using some TM resings. and somehow, i have a feeling, they're gonna drop TM soon and either do tony griffin or jam.
August 21, 2009 at 10:38 pm #69238tyty21hey, already have a few cuts from those packages. but trying to find now, oldies 94.9, clevelands country, ridin' with KSCS, and others from TM.
September 20, 2009 at 1:25 am #70079tyty21if you can remember what the words were for the cleveland resing of the first christmas cut that appeared there for WLTF? it was from big time radio. and those WCIR cut sound like hot KIIS resings.
October 1, 2009 at 6:10 am #70307tyty21just to be clear on this, KODS was drake 88
October 1, 2009 at 6:11 am #70308tyty21it was cut 5 of the series they used! shame reno doesn't stream! have any more new airchecks?
October 1, 2009 at 6:26 am #70309tyty21if you listen closely to the second WWMG charlotte in montage 2, you'll here the pams WLS 70's launch pad! and that might be drake 88 and 89
October 1, 2009 at 6:27 am #70310tyty21it's the WWMG jingle after WCOS!
October 1, 2009 at 6:31 am #70311tyty21“you here resings you thought never existed.” QSM was one! got any more Pinnacle of New York cut 22 resings? i'm thinking of doing a montage of that cut. I love near the end where the slogan line “the brightest mix” KATF or “Fayetteville” WQSM, those vocals and the instrumental track gets ya!
October 1, 2009 at 6:34 am #70312tyty21darn! you should've got KOLA when they were using super hits/rapid fire/oldies radio!
October 1, 2009 at 6:37 am #70313tyty21here's what i'm talking about, this is the KATF dubuque IA resing of Pinnacle Of New York cut 22
