Gold have new jingles from IQBeats, here http://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.4953.
Very unforgettable. They do nothing for me!
If I were programming an oldies station I would have gone for classic jingles from either Jam or TM, maybe remakes of Radio 1 or 2 jingles that the listeners would associate with the era (but then if I were programming Gold it would actually have some listeners!!!!!!)

Surely you mean “forgettable”? I think the package is pretty good, although the station itself's rather uninspiring.

I may be wrong, but I think these jingles are featured on IQ website for a while actually
            (a few months perhaps.)

I agree, they sound great, though they don't have the “calibre” of JAM or TM oldies packages.

More than a few months actually! The project was completed just before Christmas 2008 and the demo cuts were released after the New Year break on January 5th.

Both Radio Today and Jinglenews have it down as a brand new package which is wrong! A few people have some catching up to do!

JingleNews did post this last January – http://www.jinglenews.com/2009/01/21/this-is-gold/

Novell must not have been aware that this was an old package when posting the article today.

No where near up to the standard of Groove Addicts or the vibrancy of the Realworld stuff for oldies stations.

These jingles were indeed announced last January:

“…Global Radio’s classic hits network ‘Gold‘. Working directly from the brief of Director of Broadcasting Richard Park, IQ’s composers have created a set of material that truly reflects the timeless hits that are heard on Gold every day”

They may be 'heard on Gold every day' but it seems the fact no one commented until 7 months later is a reflection of the lack of interest in this package of just SEVEN jingles, with mix outs extra.

(IQ Beats call them 'themes' – why on earth do the need to reinvent the wheel ?)

In the 80s and 90s packages were typically 15-25 cuts – the small size of this package reflects the lower interest/ listening span to the station?

I personally found the package musically contradicts the description by the jingle company.

They list it as 'just right for imaging the greatest hits from the… Stones, David Bowie, The Who, Madonna, The Beatles, U2, Aretha Franklin and the Doors'

                    WHEREAS

The SEVEN cuts are based on the styles of Abba, Beach Boys, Bacharach, the Hollies, Wham, Bob Seger….

But for example the 'Hollies' cut has three SOUL singers wailing the vocals, out of synch, out of time with the track… and trailing away so the end would CRASH any record.

Also – on several of the cuts the singers almost lose the 'd' of 'Gold' so it sounds like 'This is Goal'

                    OVERALL: a very poor package.
