James Dundon of Cornwall’s Pirate FM has Tweeted:
“The @piratefm rebrand is on… JAM Jingles back on air. Happy Birthday Pirate- 21 years old today! A cut between every song from 10am-7pm tonight”
Pete Appleyard replied: “Sounding great mate, you must have been busy! Really enjoying the JAM jingles. Will they be making a permanent comeback? “
Sadly this was his reply was: “no, just for one day only, but some of the cuts haven’t dated at all!”
My comment? “SOME ” ! ! ? ?
Maybe if a few of us blitzed Twitter they might see sense and just put them back on forever?!
Naturally, David Lloyd’s daily “Radio Moments” has it covered with audio !

LOVE the Song!
April 3, 2013 at 9:50 am #89509AndyWMemberThanks for the heads up! Listening now. Not really between every record though. I’ve heard a JAM acapella played a couple of times, a slow one and a severely edited Serving The Universe Turbo Z cut. I’m still rolling tape though!
Does anyone else have the Pirate FM JAM demo with the vocal issue on one cut? “Pirate FM – South West in Buffalo”.
April 3, 2013 at 10:05 am #89510AndyWMemberOK. They’ve played the Pirate FM song out of the 10am news. Now that’s good!
April 3, 2013 at 10:08 am #89511IainJohnstonMemberHave it here Andy – on the “ILR” CD – will put the audio up for you sometime today
The Pirate “launch package” was a VERY good example of the “Q Cuts” etc composite that many UK ILRs bought through Alfasound/JAM at that time. And each cut had the “New Pirate FM” and [just] “Pirate FM” vocal versions so that the package could continue to be used once the station was a bit less …er…”new”…
April 3, 2013 at 10:14 am #89512LenGroatA perfect place to run local, lively radio….
LOVE the song !!
I can just imagine that lyriced…
““There’s A Rainbow World of Memories
In every Song we play
With Solid Gold for Europe
North America and the UKay”For a certain Solid Gold radio station
April 3, 2013 at 11:17 am #89513IainJohnstonAnd here they are … the infamous “in Buffalo” left-open-fader “incident” is at 0:18
April 3, 2013 at 11:46 am #89514IainJohnstonPS – what good lyrics there Len – maybe someone should……….
April 3, 2013 at 12:12 pm #89515professor1036Does anyone else have the Pirate FM JAM demo with the vocal issue on one cut? “Pirate FM – South West in Buffalo”.
I always thought the lyric was “In Pass of Looe”? Looe being a place in Cornwall…
April 3, 2013 at 2:28 pm #89518LenGroatHi Iain
Yes, I do think ‘someone should’ !
JAM ‘Yours Truly’ song DONUT for SolidGoldGem.AM by Len Groat
Now all I have to do is write the other 10 lines !
April 3, 2013 at 2:43 pm #89519IainJohnstonGoodness gracious me!
Amazing how JAM can sing a brand-new lyric within hours of you writing it Len!
I’m sure the other 10 lines will be “in the can” by tea-time!(…where’s the “emoticon” for “tongue-in-cheek”…. )
Seriously though, I have never heard that cut with that classy sax solo in it before.
And as we always say – with JAM its what goes on UNDER the lyrics that also shows the quality of the writing, musicanship, and production).Take a bow (yet again) Len and JMW > > >
April 3, 2013 at 5:30 pm #89522bossjockMemberOne word for your new cut Len – AWESOME! I’ve also been enjoying the Pirate FM stream today, with many classic JAM jingles. A good jingle day
April 3, 2013 at 5:40 pm #89523LenGroatYes Jon dragged the singers out of bed…. as I’m such a good customer !
And yes Iain I got the other 10 lines written by 4.59pm and look what’s just arrived on a USB stick strapped to a pigeon’s leg!
JAM ‘Yours Truly’ song for SolidGoldGem.AM by Len Groat
Seriously, I spent AGES ruminating over the lyrics; Jon advised, I asked my colleagues at http://www.solidgoldgem.am for a few opinions, and as we are very active on Facebook even managed to get that to ‘fit’ in the lyric.
Are we the first radio station in the world to have ‘Facebook’ sung !?
Jon and his team have really come up trumps for ‘Yours Truly’ …
April 5, 2013 at 9:18 am #89535bossjockMemberWow Len – I love the full version too. Great lyrics!! Much midnight oil burned I suspect . Great result. And goodness knows how many mixouts you’ll be able to get from it . Thanks for sharing.

1-0-2 !!!!!!April 6, 2013 at 11:18 am #89547LenGroatGood to see that old post by ‘Yours Truly” which I presume is Mike Powell…
His words from 9 years ago… still reverberate in our ears…..
“For what its worth, I think radio stations have lost so much heart and soul by not having strong on-air music-based identities. Spoken production elements are rarely memorable – and now they are soooooooooo complicated and over-produced that they are also rarely intelligable to anyone other than their producer! It never ceased to amaze me how many listeners commented on our jingles – and who would come up to you at outside broadcasts and sing the themes!”
Syndicated quasi-national I(L)R… Talk about THAT at your focus groups, conferences and research meetings !
April 6, 2013 at 3:29 pm #89552LenGroatFun idea ~ for bored anoraks ~ using the track I posted 3 April!
Compose!!
New lyics for the song…. for any station you loved, that has closed.
Kind of ‘in memoriam jingle lyrics’
What would that station have beene singing now?
Count the SYLLABLES, be good and stick to them, and have fun!
April 6, 2013 at 5:42 pm #89556Bigdave3 guesses who it’s for…and it’s a rough first version but…

April 6, 2013 at 5:47 pm #89557LenGroatJeeez Dave! I can never re-lyric a song THAT quickly ~ well done
You should work in advertising?!
April 6, 2013 at 5:56 pm #89558BigdaveI’ve always been a bit of a rhyming Simon,Len…
I think if you know the cut well enough, you can match it’s musical meter with your lyrics.
April 6, 2013 at 8:03 pm #89560jonnoMemberHere’s a montage of the cuts from my Pirate FM cassette (but I’ve left out the instrumental track of the Yours Truly song despite the ropey quality) :ar!
April 7, 2013 at 9:35 am #89567IainJohnstonJonno – was this a “Listeners’ Copy” for sale by the station as in the e.g. Lantern FM’s c assette, or the Premier Radio/Delta CDs, or the Invicta CD?
