Hi Mike
This is really close – just longer and a more full mix. The vocalist is the girl I remember. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll contact Brian…..

Well chasps and chaspeses, the lesson begineth (that is not meant to be me with attitude honestly). It wasn't EMISON (praise be upon high). It was a short package done back in 1974 as an addition to the Gerry Marsden package because the jocks thought that some of the Gerry jingles were too uptempo. So someone who new someone's manager asked whether their artist would do some jingles for them. that someone was……….Linda Lewis, it is her jingle package and was used from day 1.
There are 2 cuts to that jingle 1 short and the one uploaded here.
The origin of the “nitty gritty” jingle is in fact an old song by Shirley Ellis (clapping song fame) and it was called “The Nitty Gritty”.
It is thought that the Linda Lewis jingles were recorded during the sessions for her “Not a little girl” album.
Hope this fills in one of those gaps in the jingle jigsaw.March 16, 2008 at 8:38 pm #57609GrahamCollins
Thanks Brian – great facts there. If I was marking you, this is A+ information. Have you got the shorter cut ? High time we did one of those good old fashioned trades

MemberIf I had less scruples I'd amend my post hahahahahaah to look very clever
But as it was in with other eMISON jingles on my track I'll use that as my excuse.
Thanks for the infor Brian – always great to know the details behind the jingles.March 16, 2008 at 11:04 pm #57617JingleMad
MemberSo did this linda lewis jingle and the top of the hour jingle come out of the same smallpackage
Little known fact all the pc's at city over the years held back from putting 1….9…4 radio city jingle in the bin (bad luck vibes)….and I was used as the Vo to change that top of the hour jingle more than 15 years ago “across the northwest and north wales on 194 mw and 96.7 this is ( I think we used this station name ) City Fm “

Barry, the news intro jingle1-9-4-Radio City was from the Gerry Marsden package and the vocalist was none other than the great voiced Madeleine Bell (at that time she was just about on most ILR jingle packages). I was up in the radio City beacon in January, the photographic results will appear in my website soon, and I was speaking to Richard Maddock, the station Director and he said that when the move from Stanley street to the tower came about the jingle tapes were in fact put into a skip…..boo hoo.

Why do stations do that – Its not like they take up a lot of space and its part of thier history!!!

MemberMaybe its people who dont rate radio the way others do .. its just a job to them..But I guess they get lots of people who are so geek about jingles
