Tonight I stumbled upon a jingle package that took my breath away!
Plenty of “Ooohs Ahhs and Yeahs” to keep today's “young” jingle company
followers happy! But EVERYTHING to keep us “Auld Yins” feeling that there IS still something
worth listening to – classy yet contemporary instrumentation, imaginative
melodies and well-sung vocal harmonies, MORE than ONE strapline in the
package, and more LOCATIONS than could be imagined in such a small
market, and even different vocal & instrumental styles and textures. Is the package produced in Seattle, London or Texas? Nope.
Is the station part of a huge money-spinning Clone-FM conglomerate? Nope.
Is it in a big city with a huge TSA? Nope.
Is the station even on air yet? Nope.Gentlemen, I give you, courtesey of JingleFactory.com of Italy, the excellent
package for (what is likely to be) the “world's smallest radio station”, with a
potential audience of 2100 (plus fish!) – community station ….. Radio Scilly!http://www.4shared.com/file/21845821/d087598f/RadioScilly-JinglesFactory-Montage.html
May EMAP, GMG, GCAP, et al hang their heads in shame! If Scilly can afford a package
like this, why can't the “megabucks brigade” get something with such class instead of the
endless Identikit stuff?(Play it loud, or with your headphones on!)
August 11, 2007 at 10:27 pm #31903PaulLoris and the guys at JinglesFactory have been working with Keri since the middle of June on the package. It has turned out lovely and they are all happy with the results.
Last month, BBC went to JinglesFactory's studios in Milan to record a spcial showreel-documentary about Radio Scilly's jingles as part of a feature on Radio Scilly. It's due to be shown on BBC 2 during the special 'Island Parish' this coming October. They recorded bits of the session along with interviewing the singers and Loris.

If I may quote their PD, the man with the track record
in smaller market stations…Keri Jones…in this Post of
his tonight over on DS…“We thought long and hard about jingles because they are a luxury and not essential. I never had them at Scarlet or Radio Carms. But we're keen to sound as big and as polished as the mainland stations and don't want a cheap, hokey-pokey sound that people would expect of a community station, despite our strong social gain credentials. So we decided to get some. After all the islands' default listen is Radio 2 and they have a strong on-air identity.
Loris and Michel were brilliant at jinglesfactory- they were very affordable (amazingly so) and there are lots of mix outs and imaging we will be using that isn't on the demo. We won't be using some of the themes as they are on the demo. The solo vocalist mixouts are better and stunningly good. I will use them again, but you have to get used to a very different working style. Italy is not Britain, but the end product is very pleasing to us.”
And my apologies to Gazza, if our Posts crossed – was I
the only one to find that JM had crashed for a while tonight?August 12, 2007 at 8:45 am #31910NickySMemberOn first listening to the demo they remind me a lot of the first stuff that Bespoke used to do – especially Valleys Radio and Radio Weston Super Mare – i have a feeling that Keri may have been involved in those at some point as well. I quite like the station songs despite them being a bit cheesy
August 12, 2007 at 9:19 am #31911JingleMadMemberIndeed, a fantastic package.
Thanks for the post Iain.BTW Did you get my email from last week??????
August 12, 2007 at 9:20 am #31912BarrasRadio Scilly #18 on the Jingles Factory website makes you want to pack your bags now and go and live there. I enjoyed listening to those cuts and thanks to Iain and Paul for making me aware of them, I`ll have my DVD-recorder ready for the BBC 2 documentary in October.

I think you actually beat me to it fair & square!
It had been a long day driving 400 miles back to Halifax from The Lizard in Cornwall. If only I'd have known about the test transmissions whilst at Lands End on Thursday !grr
Anyway, well done Keri, & good luck with the launch in September.Mods: Feel free to delete duplicate thread in 'website update' section.

Rob – have PM'd you – didn't realise there was a (new)
mail problem.Gazza, David…I'm sure the webstream at the launch
will be overloaded on server demand! And the Beeb
programme should be worth seeing David!Keri has come on himself on the other Thread, and
explains a wee bit of the Bespoke history (as you
suspected). Maybe Keri should be freelancing as a
jingle writer!?! (especially as I'm sure the show &
staff fees at Scilly might be just a wee bit on the
light side – but no doubt with tax breaks like the
Channel Islands I'm sure?)NB – JinglesFactory quoted me about £250 for a
Personal Cut re-sing – wonder if they'd do anything
from the Scilly package (After the usual “exclusivity
period”?)And as Gazza says, maybe the Mods could integrate
the 3 threads into one if thats technically feasible on JM?)Talking of off-air recordings – I'm off to get Radio 2 at
4.30pm today – Johnnie Walker does August 14thAugust 12, 2007 at 3:24 pm #31935IainJohnstonMemberAuthorPS – is the 28 meg “Scilly Brief” download file not accessing for a download?
August 12, 2007 at 3:43 pm #31938radioscillyI have deleted the Scilly brief file from my laptop-sorry! It was case of”job done”!

Loving the Scilly stuff. Horray for small stations using jingles.
