Rumors are flying around like crazy that WCBS-FM New York will be back within the next week or so. It made front page in the New York Daily News. Here's a link to all the news articles from google.
Hopefully many of the jingles they previously used will be back, or maybe someone (Hopefully JAM!) is working on new stuff as we speak?
July 7, 2007 at 9:39 pm #31202mbMemberThe New CBS 101.1 Jingles from JAM were fantastic and it would be great if the station launched with them.
July 7, 2007 at 10:22 pm #31205IainJohnstonMemberLot of debate about it on the New York radio forums…
e.g.http://www.musicradio77.com/wwwboard/
(And for haters of automation & VT, read the
debate about the US FCC possibly trying to
make it mandatory for stations in the USA
to be staffed round the clock!)July 8, 2007 at 11:41 am #31211JingleMadMemberIf WCBS FM comes back, That will leave WJMK as the final station to air Jack.
Iagree with everyone here. I loveed hearing the CBSFM jingles, And if the station launches with them, that will leav 104.3 WJMK left to come back.July 8, 2007 at 2:44 pm #31213jlehmannThere are many more Jack stations besides those 2, but they are probably the 2 that created the most outrage when they changed to Jack.
July 8, 2007 at 5:50 pm #31220cosgrovebmAnd I doubt that WJMK would go back to oldies in the foreseeable future as Citadel/ABC's WZZN has been spinning those tunes for a while now.
bcoz
July 8, 2007 at 9:33 pm #31225JingleMadMemberTrue, WZZN 'The true oldies channel has Jumped the shark in the Reading
July 9, 2007 at 3:30 am #31230kcmikeWord from other boards is that Gary Berkowitz will be behind the re-birth of WCBS-FM.
I would have been cool if they had swtched back this past Saturday. It was 7/7/72 when WCBS switched from Rock to Oldies.
July 9, 2007 at 3:12 pm #31241SeanMartinIt's official . . . . WCBS FM, NY will roll out the oldies again starting Thursday July 12th at 1.01 pm.
A great day for radio!

HURRAH… some sense in a crazy radio world…..
I hope someone posts the names of all the EXECS who switched it to Jack so everyone remembers them
I was in New York socially when they first had the Do It Again package… (I remember Debra Wetzel on news [classy] Harry Harrison on breakfast and Max Kinkle on nights.. W O W )
I rang Jon quickly and I THINK GEM-AM was the first station to have re-sings?
Well I was there the NEXT week!
We bought the incredible main namecheck, weather cut, 'Best Oldies on the Best station'…
A GREAT classic JAM package…..
And more recently I got the legal ID…..
This station was an institution in New York: eventually the public are proven right, but how long to re-assemble those lost listeners.. ??
July 9, 2007 at 7:00 pm #31244ratnobMemberNot sure it's happened yet:
http://www.wcbsfm.com/ is the internet version that's been playing JAM and back-to-back songs since JACK moved in.GB
July 9, 2007 at 7:08 pm #31245JingleMadMemberDid you know…
My good friend Connie Szerszen was PD at WJMK before it flipped to the Jack format?
It's true.
She told me that WJMK was about to air the Home of thes package, But was to late, Because the flip happened.
July 9, 2007 at 8:08 pm #31246ratnobMemberIt's official – Gary B is behind the flip and it will happen on Thursday. Welcome back JAM to WCBS-FM.

July 9, 2007 at 8:14 pm #31247Maya53When CBS-FM first flipped to Jack, I think they still have the JAM jingles, but I don't know which package did they use under Jack.
July 9, 2007 at 9:00 pm #31249ratnobMemberThey just used voiced liners as Jack, I think
July 9, 2007 at 10:02 pm #31251bulger23For the latest details, go to Radio and Records. They have the latest info including the new jock lineup, which doen't include some previous legends.

I doubt they will be using hte PAMS sutff on the air Thursday at 1:01 PM when they go on the air. Hopefully they will have JAM though!
July 10, 2007 at 6:03 pm #31257ratnobMemberThat's my understanding from Gary B

Waaaaait a minute. Isn't Mr. Berkowitz also consulting WWFS/Fresh 102.7? Is he really also consulting the new CBS-FM at the same time?If so, I hope that JAM Jingles are back, but also that the personalites are allowed to be themselves. Word was that Mr. Berkowitz's influence on Oldies 104.3 WOMC/Detroit led to the return of JAM Jingles, but MUCH less DJ talk and personality. With people like Dan Taylor, Bob Shannon, and Bill Lee at the new CBS-FM, I would certainly hope this would not be even close to necessary. They've been on the air for many years and don't need someone telling them when or when not to speak (and I'm sure that the WOMC folks are just as competent). We've alreay got Fresh, the station where the DJs speak for about a total of ninety seconds per hour. Hopefully, this will not be the case with CBS-FM as it is a classic hits/oldies station with great personalities. But again, I'm still unsure if Mr. Berkowitz would actually consult two stations (WWFS and the new WCBS-FM) in the same market at the same time. Can anyone confirm?
Nevertheless, the return of WCBS-FM to the New York market is one of the best things that's happened to radio, especially in the Big Apple, for a long time.
July 11, 2007 at 1:37 am #31260radiojingles.co.nrWCBS got flack from its die-hard Oldies fans, including some former DJs as well as Mayor Michael Bloomberg, when it switched formats in 2005, writes MediaPost.
The move is said to be the decision of the new CBS Radio CEO Dan Mason, who returned to the company in March after leaving it in 2002 to work as a consultant for the industry. Mason also recently returned 92.3 K-Rock to its Alternative format.

July 12, 2007 at 7:52 am #31270MarcMannetjeThat's true David,
JAM did the on-air sound of Fresh 102.7. They were asked to do a package in a very short time, so Wolfert first made a couple of basic cuts and produced the other ones much later.
As I understand almost every station that is consulted by Gery Berkowitz uses JAM jingles…
