Hi guys,
As you know both radio 1 and 2 will be 40 years old this year.
When radio 1 was 25 in 1992 they were still using Jam jingles and had several shows, for example, a history of the top 40, which featured old clips and old Jam jingles.
If they have celebratory shows this year, will they be allowed to play old Jam jingles, even though they are not using Jam anymore.Attached is an advert advertising the programmes when they were 25.

July 7, 2007 at 9:19 pm #31201mbMemberAs far as I know Radio 1 is planning on playing down being 40 as much as possible and ignoring it. Their marketing team believes that stressing its heritage from 67> will alienate it from it's target market who don't give a fig about wonderful 247 Radio 1 with johnny pop.
And in some respects I can see thier point – however with a bit of creativity it could have been done !!July 7, 2007 at 10:13 pm #31204IainJohnstonMemberI doubt if they would be allowed to play old JAM
jingles on either station unless JW gave it his (legal)
blessing – but as someone who appreciates heritage
I do wonder what JW would say if asked by R2
at least? What we really want is – new JAM jingles on R2
at least! If only……… !sadJuly 8, 2007 at 5:37 am #31208johnnygI never understand why the chart show stays on Radio 1, especially if something they don't like appears they won't play it. As it's not really a Top 40 station wouldn't it be better moved over to Radio 2, maybe replace that ghastly Dale Winton! !dodge
If I can be picky, that 25 year old promo is inaccurate – celebrating 25 years of “One FM”, it wasn't on FM in the beginning! :p
July 8, 2007 at 9:42 am #31209gameswizardMemberradio 1 went 'down the pan' years ago.
gimme radio 2 anyday of the weekJuly 12, 2007 at 1:13 am #31269mumossI would suspect that Chris Moyles will do something, even if the rest of Radio 1 doesn't. He really seems to care about the heritage of the station.
July 12, 2007 at 9:41 am #31272BealeyMemberLast Summer, Moyles brought back “The Golden Hour” when he was doing some OBs – and used Bates old JAM jingles. He credited Jon Wolfert and the JAM team for allowing them to be used – so I'm sure Jon would give his blessing for the Beeb to use old cuts again as part of the 40th Birthday celebrations.
But yes, I do see Radio 1's point. When they were 25 back in 1992, Fluff Freeman was still on air as was John Peel, DLT and Simon Bates. The Radio 1 of 2007 doesn't really lend itself to anniversaries, unless they can remix PAM and JAM stuff with their current imaging..now THAT would be good!!
