May 7, 2007 at 8:47 pm #30017kcmikeRE: D-TOX from Zone Radio Imaging for KEZK
Another nice package from Zone, and another brilliant demo.
(I can think of at least a half dozen Jinglemad members with A.J.D.) !lolAny more St. Louis stations in the works?

May 8, 2007 at 6:35 am #30020radiojingles.co.nrDTox is a refreshing sound of AC jingle imaging, apart from the burn out and overuse of digital effects and drum loops.
May 8, 2007 at 10:19 am #30021MarkHanna“Another nice package from Zoneâ€
“DTox is a refreshing sound of AC jingle imagingâ€.Well sorry I can’t agree, it sounds a really bad package to me! Lacks production, the music tracks sound very cheap and cheesy and the vocal group (or maybe the singer that’s been multi tracked) is just as bad.
I’m sorry, and it is just my opinion – this package is very poor! Jam and the other Class Jingle companies have no worries from that kind of work.

'the music tracks sound very cheap and cheesy and the vocal group (or maybe the singer that’s been multi tracked) is just as bad.'I have to agree: the Synthetic string / bell sound is very wearing after 2 or 3 plays, and the vocal 'group' sounds like 2 or 3 of the group singers, or the soloist, did not turn up for the session; the thin/ high ending is not attractive.
What is also unneccessary is that it takes unsubtle digs at the KOST sound created by JAM: 'sleepy, old style AC jingles'… Yet the KOST formula has worked for 20 years and countless packages. I wonder if this company will still be doing the KEZK jingles in 20 years time?
I listened to the output and ALL I heard were the JAM (KOST) jingles? !
If KEZK needed to modify its sound (which sounds very good to me anyway) they could have just tried a harder 5 part vocal group on the KOST tracks.

May 8, 2007 at 11:58 am #30023Good Time OldieI'm afraid I have to agree also with the comments regarding the production and especially “the thin/ high ending” vocals, which is a personal bugbear of mine and something I always ask the jingle company to avoid at all costs (not happy, I will ALWAYS tell them).
What makes it even more disappointing is the massive build up this package gets at the beginning of the demo (far too long imho)
I personally think this isn't one of Zone's best efforts, but obviously the station is happy with it, so I guess that's all that matters.

They could have gone with ReelWorld or JonesTM.
However, I like this package.
Len, Be Happy Zone is around.
As for the 5voice group, Zone does only 3-4voice group on there Custom. On a resing, It could be a 6voice group with loe bace, But extrah charge aplyes.

May 8, 2007 at 4:54 pm #30026MarkHannaJingle Junkey,
I think a few of us are just trying to say we prefer Jingles with some artistic work and talent involved (I can’t hear any of that with this package).
I’m not rubbishing Zone…. I think the country package on their site is pretty good.
Why Len or any of us should “Be Happy Zone is aroundâ€, I’m not sure???? It’s a business and far from top of it’s class.

Ouch!
May 8, 2007 at 7:17 pm #30030945KBAYguywhats with the kvil musical logo?
May 8, 2007 at 8:50 pm #30032ratnobMemberActually, I like them – some great tracks. For me it's the vocals and especially the station logo that don't quite work. But, hey, what do I know? The demo stuff is a bit snide and certainly goes on a bit, but it's entertaining enough.
I've been listening to the station all weekend though and only heard KOST resings, so I can only assume these IDs haven't aired yet.

May 8, 2007 at 10:05 pm #30033mbMemberI think that nowadays programmes are looking for vocals that don't fit the traditional jingles mould or certainly associated ( rightly or wrongly ) with the80's!! Reelworld, IQ Beats etc have produced new sounds and I guess this is an alternative. I still think that you can't beat JAM for tight vocals but love some of the crispness of Reelworld.

To be honest, Len, jingle companies have been slagging each other off on demos for years. As Jon Wolfert once pointed out in a newspaper article once, jingle companies don't have on big Christmas party where they all go to.
Granted It's not the best package in the world but its certainly not the worst. As the Gobby 1 said as long as the station is happy and that they work on air, that's the main thing.
While I'm here, big respect to you for all the JAM resings you did. I f I remeber correctly, Jon Wolfert said you one of the better ones when it cam to putting new lyrics to JAM tracks.
Also the mid to late 80s work with Alfa was good too. Especially the Alfa add on's on the Trent FM 1989 jingles which complimented the Century 21 package back then. They were good!May 9, 2007 at 10:56 am #30048MarkHannaDont think anyone said it the worse package ever done.
Interesting that the Jam KOST resing pack is still running on this station….. I wonder if the Zone Package is going to make it to air??
Here 3 different KEZK jingles produced by 3 different producers –
1. Jam (Great package that made it to air)
2. Zone (Bad package that might make it to air)
3.MarkNaff Jingles (Worse package that will never air)By the way , here at MarkNaff Jingles we are so confident with our work that, if the package we produce for you makes it on to your station — We'll Give You Your Money Back!!!

May 9, 2007 at 12:22 pm #30050Good Time OldieHey Mark, loved the cut from “MarkNaff Jingles “, great voice man !, did you ever sing for Alfasound?
The Gobby 1
May 9, 2007 at 12:33 pm #30051MarkHannaI stared on some of their very worsted packages — im proud to say they never made it to air.
Steve and Alan always called on me for solo sessions – I must have sung every station in the uk, they used to call me 'Hot Rockin, Note Missin Mark' – they would have fired me if I ever hit the right note.
Arrrrrr the memories.. i created miles and miles of tape in some land-fill out there somewhere!
May 9, 2007 at 7:54 pm #30061IainJohnstonMemberNice wind-up Mark!
I just can't wait for “MarkNaff” to start up a
“Personal Cuts” service !!!
(presumably you'd actually pay US to have
them ? )May 10, 2007 at 2:00 pm #30079MarkHannaWell, Chris Stevens did e-mail me to say “if we get short of singers I'll give you a shoutâ€.
So the Personal Cuts service may have to wait – but the offer will be Buy One Cut and Get the Complete Package FREE, including 327 mix-outs!!!!!Joking apart, good luck to Zone for a growing business —- as I said earlier on in this thread, I’m not rubbishing them…. I just don’t think that KEZK package will help to sell them as a company. They can produce good work… just listen to the country package they did. What the neck do I know anyway!!

May 10, 2007 at 6:10 pm #30084bruceupI just thought I would share what MarkHanna sent KEZK's midday jock this morning:
KEZK.com comments to Kris Kelly
1. Name:: Mark Hanna
2. Email Address :: markhanna@hotmail.co.uk
3. What city do you live in?: Birmingham (UK)
4. Are you over 13 years of age?: YES
5. What is your question or comment?: The Station sounds great… I came across it due to a forum I read Jinglemad.com. we were talking about your new jingles (Ouch!! they don't sound too good… but you don't seem to be playing them yet anyway??) This is the thread if you wanted to see comments about your new package. Thanks Kris. http://www.jinglemad.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?44122
6. Would you like a reply?: YesAlthough I would question your answer to #4, you seem to be doing everything but taking out a full page advert in the local paper asking listeners to boycott the station. Mark Edwards told me that there are some kindred jingle dweebs in St. Louis who will also start trashing the new jingles as soon as they figure out that they've changed them. MarkHanna, I'm always happy to help people find purpose in their lives, and you are no exception.
May 10, 2007 at 8:55 pm #30087MarkHannaLOL — OOOWWW that hurt!!!
You sound a bit personal there Bruce. You as you are an artist, should know by now that, people that have an interest in your field of Art (“kindred jingle dweebsâ€, as you like to quote), will give there personal opinion about your work.
So, there are a few of us on this thread that don’t rate the KEZK package you produced —- and your response is a personal attack! I’m sure if I was SO confident with my work and my customer was SO happy with the results, I wouldn’t feel the need to start rolling out personal quips.
As for your comment “you seem to be doing everything but taking out a full page advert in the local paper asking listeners to boycott the station†– I think the station sounds great, my comments about your Jingle Package and wondering why it isn’t being used on air yet, are somewhat quite away from station boycotts lol.
I look forward to hearing the package on air and working well for KZEK.
Could I just remind you Bruce the “kindred jingle dweebs†as Mark Edwards calls them and you like to use in quotes, OFTEN end-up as your customers in years to come. In some cases these “jingle dweebs†end-up starting a Jingle Business and turn out to be the best in the industry (a chap called Jon springs to mind).
I guess I didn’t make your Christmas card list this year. Chill out in the free world of opinions Bruce…. It’s a wonderful place!!!
May 10, 2007 at 11:23 pm #30089bruceupHey Mark, I count myself as a jingle dweeb. Recovering, but still a member of the tribe. Like I've told a few jinglemadders who have sent PM's to me about this, the AC D-TOX demo is also sending up yours truly, as I started as an aircheck weasel, mostly WLS, WBZ and WRKO – I love lush 7-voice jingles (and love singing them).
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and as long as it stays in the confines of the forum, I have no problem with the discourse of free speech. When you take it out of the forum, that's when I have to respond. When that line is crossed, the gloves come off. I'm the one who's dealing with CBS, you're not. It's not a confidence issue (I am a devout follower of the Church Of Overconfidence, ask anyone who's ever worked with me), you just ticked me off.
Also, let's keep Jon out of this nonsense. The AC D-TOX demo is not a slam directed at him or JAM (I believe the word 'slagging' was used, we don't say that over here, I kind of like it), they just happen to be the jingles on the air at the time I was approached to do the new stuff – it was the jingle style transition that was being lampooned. Had it been Thompson or J/TM, I don't think anybody here would have given a squat. I simply don't make 'safe' jingle demos, they bore me to tears. I've been doing this too long to be any other way.
I understand your 'potential client' dissertation, but honestly, you probably wouldn't buy our stuff even if it were free. So let's be jingle dweebs together and be done with this. I've got another custom to start…
May 11, 2007 at 4:05 am #30092MarkHannaGood Idea Bruce. Best wishes with the new custom.
