I have no idea if this is really true, but I got a quite surprising reply when I posted about B101 in Providence no longer using jingles in this thread:
http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,67615.0.html
Anyone from CC know anything about this? Could every CC station in the US soon stop using jingles? I guess just another example of Clear Channel cutting costs… maybe.
April 11, 2007 at 10:39 pm #29708mbMemberI met a former senior CC executive at a conference last year his only comment “Clear Channel are everything you think they are.”
April 12, 2007 at 12:03 pm #29715mattii70It's probably not true. What is more likely is since Clear Channel is planning to go private, local budgets will have been cut, so at the Providence cluster the local management decided to cut the jingles instead of firing some jocks. As far as I'm aware KIIS are still airing their brand new custom package.
April 19, 2007 at 1:50 pm #29722JingleMadMemberWLIT Just dropped their jingles today. At leest KSCS Uses there custom JonesTM Package'RidingHie.
April 19, 2007 at 3:39 pm #29726Chris StevensKSCS is owned by ABC not Clear Channel.
April 19, 2007 at 6:24 pm #29729JingleMadMemberThat's right, And so does radio disney.
Getting back ontopic, It's to bad WLIT Dropped there jingles this mornin.
Another country station in the CC markect is WQDR, And they still use jingles.
April 19, 2007 at 8:44 pm #29730ratnobMemberI notice WLIT have dropped the reference to “LITE” altogether – a sign perhaps that the Fresh 102.7 theme of “not like the old LITE station” may be making an impact. Fresh is using Jam jingles, of course, and playing them frequently.
April 19, 2007 at 9:43 pm #29731jlehmannDo you mean WLTW? WLIT is in Chicago
April 21, 2007 at 6:58 am #29754MarcMannetjeI know WLTW stopped using the name 'Lite' and is promoting itself with 'New York's 106.7' since April 6th. Jim Ryan (PD) said it was because with the introduction of the Portable People's Meter the only that counts is your frequency, and most people who fill out the diaries, only mention '106.7', without 'Lite'.
I understand that more ClearChannel stations drop their 'Lite' names. And that Fresh is growing in NYC positioning itself as new AC.
Meanwhile another CBS-station just turned to the name 'Lite' (KVIL in Dallas) a year ago, and is very succesfull…
April 21, 2007 at 11:17 am #29759JingleMadMemberAnd there Jingles? Reelworld worked hard with PD to use them. Oh well…
April 22, 2007 at 2:52 pm #29779MarcMannetjeKVIL uses a custom JonesTM package, WLTW was planning to start using sung jingles from ReelWorld, that news got a lot of publicity but I only heard some sung cuts during the christmas sweeps.
WWFS/Fresh uses new JAM jingles, they should be on the JAM site shortly.
April 24, 2007 at 1:37 pm #29801Chris StevensJeff,
WLIT in Chicago is cutting out jingles as well.April 24, 2007 at 2:50 pm #29803PaulWe've been hearing about the WLTW custom from ReelWorld since 2005. Will they ever air, I wonder?
April 24, 2007 at 4:34 pm #29806JingleMadMemberPaul,
CC won't allow WLTW to air there jingles.
WWFS Ilisten to sometimes uses fresh Jam jingles. And WLTW has low radings now.
Now all CC Stations have just dropped there Jingle packages.
If only WLTW would have been a CBS Radio station, They would use jingles if that would to be the case.
April 24, 2007 at 9:15 pm #29809jlehmannWLTW's ratings have not dropped yet, but we'll see what happens now that they've dropped the “Lite FM” name. I checked KOST and WNIC's streams last week, and they were still airing jingles. I wonder if they're grandfathered or something? If they drop them, that'll be a huge blow for JAM (especially KOST).
April 25, 2007 at 12:18 am #29810945KBAYguy^Dosent WNIC use Reelworld?
KWAV is still using KVIL Resings that they got over 14 YEARS AGO! !illApril 25, 2007 at 12:38 am #29811JingleMadMemberNo. WNIC uses Jam Jingles, a cust custom, To be exact.
CC did something wrong. We should sig patition to get CC to stop cutting Jingles.
April 25, 2007 at 1:02 pm #29815kcmikeJingles aren’t the only thing disappearing at CC stations:
In Dallas, Commercial Radio Without Commercials
From The New York Times, 4/23/07
By Andrew Adam NewmanFacing increasing competition from satellite radio and iPods, Clear Channel Communications…KZPS (Country/Rock hybrid Lone Star 92.5) in Dallas will no longer run traditional 30- or 60-second advertisements. Instead, advertisers sponsor an hour of programming, during which a D.J. will promote its product conversationally in what the company calls integration.
The product-themed chitchat will account for about two minutes peppered throughout the hour, in contrast to the 12 minutes to 16 minutes of commercials that most stations broadcast each hour.
Advertisers will own not just the hour but also their categories. The station has four initial sponsors — Southwest Airlines, AT&T, Coors Brewing and Guitar Center — and will not sell advertising space to other airlines, phone companies, breweries or musical instrument stores.-Mike
April 25, 2007 at 1:26 pm #29816freq-kyHmmmm,reminds me of what some of the offshore pirate stations used to do in the 1960s.
With some country stations in the US having “Dirty Dozen” spots.I hope that the likes of SC Johnson and Proctor & Gamble don't go there.
Seriously though,it'll be interesting to see it works for them.

Really not on topic, I apologize but I'm interested in what type of increased competition is coming from Satellite? Ipod, okay maybe I can see that one to some point.
